Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Bridget Riley 10 on Jun 15, 2021 22:37:17 GMT 1, My Riley Chicago 8 didn’t do too great.
Estimate £5-7k , went £7.5k hammer or £9.5k with commission.
Was hoping for more but such is life . Still made a profit on it but you live and learn. Like the bookies the auction house always wins. !!!!

I think the 2nd half of the auction was much more subdued than the evening sale, definately seeing certain artists cooling off as well, Riley and Emin in particular seem to have seen price falls recently.

You got greedy.
Hello everyone. Apologies not replied on here . Looked just now and had 8 different people private messaging me who are interested , some making offers. The one that sold yesterday in USA doesn’t look in great condition to me but maybe someone got a good deal . Looking for £15k . If I don’t get then will sell to the highest offer I get out the 8 people interested . Already 1 of them has offered £10k

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Horatio Nelson on Jun 16, 2021 9:38:19 GMT 1, The price shown on the Phillips auction website ‘Sold for £xx’ is that the hammer price ? Or does it include buyers premium + vat ? Prices shown now (i.e. after auction closes) are with premium + vat. But prices shown while the auction is ongoing are just the hammer price.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by JFCC on Jun 16, 2021 11:09:32 GMT 1, Sorry to be a pedant but the calculation is
Hammer price + buyers premium + ARR = Auction house site price.
Price paid by a UK buyer is Hammer price + (Buyers premium +VAT) + ARR = UK price paid.
The hammer price was £70k, the non VAT price was £88.5k per the auction site and the fully paid price was £94.5k
Some countries will charge an import duty that will be similar to UK VAT

I don’t own this one unfort but this is inline with previous sale price and often cited as his best print.

How things have changed in 2-3 years. I remember when Rampage was released through Jealous - it seemed to move through one tier price every 5-7 days if not longer. Final tier was £1.2k or £1.5k if I recall. I was on the fence so missed out but picked one up for under the final tier price a week or so after it sold out and have had it on the wall since. There is something that draws the viewer into the image and text - made perfect sense to have outside our kids’ rooms for when they go to bed. Not that they’ve taken notice of the messaging yet…

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by That Print Guy on Jun 16, 2021 13:45:00 GMT 1, Did you read somewhere that my print was for sale? I do not think.... So don't write to people privately unless required. Thank you 🙂 I offered you the most recent hammer price for a piece of art you own which I think is very fair. The fact it is below what you paid isn’t my problem. Id rather you didn’t share my PM’s in public but I’m not too bothered. maybe don't send unsolicited PMs if you don't want them shared.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Poster Bob on Jun 16, 2021 13:50:47 GMT 1, Both times that print sold for a high price at Phillips it was an AP. It's possible that bidders are placing an extra premium on it for being outside of the edition. I am not aware of whether or not his APs actually deviate from the standard editions, but it is something worth taking into consideration when trying to explain the high prices.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Zippy on Jun 16, 2021 13:58:17 GMT 1, APs are exactly the same as the main edition with Shrigley releases.
His ‘Animals’ are increasing in popularity and the Rampage is currently the most popular.
But prices move all the time. Someone quote a high price on gap in the clouds selling a few months back but this week one sold for a lot less. Roughly £2.5k ish.
