Hockney going from strength to strength. Haring and Warhol looking very good. Grayson Perry's and Harland's markets looking soft. Hirst market looking splangly.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Jonas B on Sept 28, 2022 21:54:04 GMT 1, Interesting auction going on as we speak. lots of good new artists as well as established. I can’t believe a Kaws canvas with a 1m diameter sold for $85k Not his best work but still a recognisable Kaws painting.
The Emin was cheap and a full set of Hirst Empresses hammered at just $17k
Not too many highlights so far

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Riotcops on Sept 29, 2022 2:38:52 GMT 1, Results seemed quite low across the board. At least for artists I've been tracking. A couple contemporary artists I collect sold for primary prices. Good time to be a buyer - not so much a seller.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by sgolby on Sept 29, 2022 14:47:03 GMT 1, If you are talking about the circular canvas, total price with premiums was $107,000. Definitely not the strongest result. However, more often than not, with Kaws, when not an iconic image, or an image containing iconic references i.e. the XX or chumlike figures, the resale value slumps.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by jackburton on Sept 29, 2022 21:37:27 GMT 1, I sold one of my Kerwick’s in the auction yesterday. The flower canvas that went for 17k with premiums. Wasn’t sure what to expect as a result given that his market has been all over the place. But was generally pleased with the result given how low I got the piece for (on primary). Still holding on to another Kerwick I have. Will say that Phillips was great to work with. Highly recommend at least from a seller’s perspective.
edit: Wes Lang and Ana Benaroya did very well. Kicking myself for not getting a Benaroya when I had the chance.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Art is fun on Mar 8, 2023 18:33:04 GMT 1, Looks like I was wrong! 2nd auctioneer went ahead and butchered the careers of a few more artists. If they just kept the same t**t that was started the auction. These artists would have done fine instead of giving 30 seconds for each lot. She even managed to slow the career path of Anna Weyant!

You’re “idiotic” to comment on how low the estimates were!! They are irrelevant and aren’t what the houses believe the works will achieve! Furthermore the two works by Angeles Agrela were tiny!

I do know how it all works but thanks for taking time to share your ‘expert’ knowledge Patrick.
