Blomqvist Contemporary – Tuesday 6th of November 2012.



Norways oldest and most recognized auction house; Blomqvist, is currently searching for works by Banksy, Dolk and Pøbel for their Contemporary auction.

Blomqvist Contemporary is a new initiative from Blomqvist and will include auctions of contemporary art and photographs and designs from ca. 1970 to the present day. They are looking for international and Norwegian art.

Blomqvist's First Contemporary Art Auction is set to drop on Nov 6. Pretty impressive space, if you're in the area recommend a trip down there. History in the walls is impressive, Edvard Munch exhibited here numerous times.

Balaclava went for 65.000 nok, about £7100.
Girl with teddy for 57.000 nok, £6200

Ok results, but I don't think regular sellers can expect to get that much for their pieces just becauce of one auction.. Auction and gallery prices are often higher than the average market prices..

We'll have to see in the long run what the market is willing to pay

This was a rather strange auction.. Of the six first items listed, two where pictured upside down in the catalogue, number six by Kjell Nupen they even had the artist tell them himself. Considering this was estimated at a low 140k nok, or £15k, you'd have to think they knew which way goes up (don't remember if it sold or not).

They also only had the three Dolk pictures in the street art category, even after asking for works by others (Banksy and Pobel, specifically). Perhaps they should have held the three Dolks to a later auction with more works of similar matter? Three Dolks, on of which I have a print of, and one I have no interest in what so ever, is not getting me on a plane (or a phone) to Oslo.

The Dolks performed as they were expected to in the estimates. Only the "Grenade Lovers" went 2k nok/£200 under which isn't to far away.

i would agree with u Papilio - as i can see it was not dolks best works auctioned today, and in my book, Balaclava is his worst/not the best. having in mind it still went at 65 k (also add 20% buyers comission) =78 k + it was low interest in general i would say nice/ok prices as expected. Just currious though, if it was other canvases, what u think they are worth ? we can make a poll ?

What a brilliant selection. Probably my favourite auction catalogue I’ve viewed and some items I’ve never seen before.

This Dolk is the stand out item for me. I’ve only recently got the print again, but would love this canvas.

Funfact: Blomqvist auction house is Norway's oldest and was Edvard Munch's art dealer and he had several show's at their location.

To my knowledge the first Banksy prints to be auctioned off in Norway. Wonder if they will stay in Norway or get picked up by international collectors.

Some really nice pieces by various artist in this auction. I’m very surprised though that 3 out of the 4 Banksys on sale went unsold. Norway is oil rich, maybe the auction didn’t have fantastic coverage
