Introducing the art of CB Hoyo
Born in 1995 in Havana, Cuba, he immigrated to the Dominican Republic, and now lives in Europe.
A self-taught artist, his work is full of colour and humour. Working with a variety of mediums and materials he is particularly know for re-appropriating art works - creating a juxtapose between the work and the current art market and social trends.

Sorry, CB Hoyo makes me want to lock all my doors and windows and hope he never finds where I live and worse still gets into my home.
His got a style, you might say a punk attitude definitely an acquired taste. Whether it’ll be widely received I’m not convinced after all BORF did a slightly similar thing with Rothko’s and tumbleweed.
And then, where’s the progression, or will CB just continue to write over artwork expressing a dislike of art?

Romanò's restored and deconstructed antique mirrors meet for the first time CB Hoyo’s “fake” paintings and his caustic reflections on modern society and the world of contemporary art. Two artists, two different ways of observing, mirroring, and reflecting today’s reality. Their styles merge into one, contaminate themselves, and break the mold.
In addition to the 10 works of the two artists, PLAN X focuses the show on two original four-handed made pieces by Romanò and Hoyo, summa and fusion of their creative thinking.

GIAMPIERO ROMANÒ, class ’73, forms his craft in his own workshop in Porta Venezia in Milan, between nails, hammers and paints, devoting himself for more than twenty years to the research and restoration of vintage-design pieces.
The collaboration with TOILETPAPER Magazine by Maurizio Cattelan brings Romanò and his works under the international spotlight, with his pieces shown in exhibitions at Galerie Perrotin in Paris and Hong Kong.
Ironic, visionary and gifted with great craftsmanship, Giampiero gives voice to his ideas and inspirations, creating an alternative universe made of mirrors - disassembled, reassembled, cut, sewn, lighted, riddled - which perhaps embody his search for an identity, or perhaps they are simply the result of his creative need.

I’ve not seen bigger pieces really to judge the pricing of those and they seem really expensive but not sure if that’s not just what his larger pieces sell for.
I personally find some of his work really quite amusing. I’m not sure I’d pay those sorts of prices for an original though and I’m also not sure that they would continue to amuse me some time down the line. Be interested to know if you green light the purchase and which you go for if any.

I once bought a Oli Epp OG from a gallery, part of the deal was to buy a CB Hoyo OG as well.... if any one wants the CB Hoyo for a good price let me know, its framed, crated and in the FL's warehouse ready to ship. |
