For those in NYC -- www.visualaids.org/projects/detail/postcards

They hold this same type of event every Jan. Basically they tap 1400 artists to submit a postcard and allow people to buy them for $80 each. Artist are revealed after purchase, and you actually buy art that you like as opposed to names that you like.

I went to the preview this year and a lot of the artists were there as well. Most of them mentioned that they specifically made postcards that did not represent their style so that people wouldn't pick those cards just because.

Awesome charity as well -- and a really cool event.

Side by Side, the first book created by Gilbert & George just four years into their lifelong artistic partnership, was published in 1971 by Koenig Brothers in Cologne in a limited edition of only 600 copies. Long out of print and now a valuable collectors’ item, it is at last being republished, again in a signed limited edition, in order to bring this essential work back into the public domain and at a very affordable price of £50

Described in the brief preface as ‘a contemporary sculpture novel’, it functions as a kind of manifesto or declaration of their view of life and art both in terms of the poetic texts and the images we are proud to co-publish with Walther König.

As with the first edition, the most immediately striking visual feature of this second edition of Side by Side, before one even opens it, is the hand-marbled cover that makes each of the 2000 copies of this beautiful edition a unique art object.

Lovingly created by the artists themselves, these seductive covers function as an invitation to step into the vision of Gilbert & George even before the pages have been opened.

For nearly five decades the art of Gilbert & George has created a visceral and epic depiction of modern urban existence. At its centre are always the artists themselves, who have dedicated their adult lives to their calling as ‘Living Sculptures’ – witness participants within the moral and vividly atmospheric world of their vision, as it is revealed in their art.

The ‘SCAPEGOATING PICTURES’ unflinchingly describe the volatile, tense, accelerated and mysterious reality of our increasingly technological, multi-faith and multi-cultural world. It is a world in which paranoia, fundamentalism, surveillance, religion, accusation and victimhood become moral shades of the city’s temper. Gilbert & George take their place in these ‘SCAPEGOATING PICTURES’ as shattered and spirit-like forms – at times masked, at times as grotesquely capering skeletons, at times dead-eyed and impassive. Always enjoy a visit to white cube, the polished concrete floor is pretty impressive and it has a toilet.

G&G are also brilliant

Just popped in on the way to work and I loved it. Some good value stuff in the shop too. They've got a book for £10 and five different signed posters - Glee, Bigot, Zeal, Glad and Poppers - for £10 each, or all five for £30. Managed to grab a full set, but there weren't many left. According to the shop manager G&G signed around 800 and there were 1500 at the private view who grabbed most of them.

That was an excellent show and the set of 5 signed posters for £30 was an excellent touch. Although I won't frame and hang all 5, I will still keep mine. Pity you have to sell, .
