Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Express Post on Jun 13, 2019 22:33:49 GMT 1, For €2,800, that's half price from last year's works on paper of similar compositions @ 100*70cm.
If they did an edition of a canvas with the big eyed figures, which are priced higher and what Javier are known for, that would justify the price.
Say what you will about his work being a poor man's Nara but don't underestimate his demand. There are enough people out there who are willing and able to afford these.
Looks like €2,800 each and apparently 2/3 sold out Javier Calleja and Galerie Zink presents a limited edition 3 new limited-edition screenprints that Zink Galerie is releasing on June 13th in an edition of 70 examples of each image. Javier Calleja, together with the Galerie Zink, launches a limited edition of 3 drawings on June 13th. Each of these images has 70 copies with a size of 94 × 66.5 cm realized in silk screen printed in Fabriano paper. In the three drawings of this limited edition, we find Calleja's iconic characters as well as their representative and eloquent phrases. In the composition of the different drawings that make up this edition, we recognize many of them in attitudes and situations that are partly reminiscent of some of the works that have formed part of their previous exhibitions. Calleja, who has been involved at all times in every detail of the printing process, signs this edition taking advantage of the opening of Clouds through the window, the current exhibition that can be visited at the Galerie Zink until July 21st in which the artist has recreated his own Chamber of Wonders. Javier Calleja signing one of the copies For further information, please contact Galerie Zink, Waldkirchen, Germany. www.zink-waldkirchen.de/T +49 (0) 170 29 40 588 mz@galeriezink.de

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by ca on Jun 13, 2019 22:34:35 GMT 1, Worst print release in the history of print releases? Price 0/10 Image 0/10 If you bought this you are dumb as dumb Is that's a bit harsh... on a more serious note I,d be curious if any fan of his could take me through the rationale as to how he explains a $3k price point for his print at retail? What has he accomplished that justifies this? I get that instagram collectors are all over his stuff but in the grand scheme of things, comparing him to blue chip artists that charge the same, is it purely due to current demand or there's actual things to point to?

This is where I'm at as well. $3200 buys a lot of variety, including small originals or works on paper by fairly well known artists. Even gets you in the door to medium sized canvases from up and coming talent. For that price I would hope for at least a hand finished print.
The fact that these are all sold out certainly casts doubt on my own doubt, like basically what do I know, since there are 200+ people willing to pay that kind of coin for this print.
In general it feels like the print market is getting a little out of hand.

And since they have sold out, they got the pricing on point.
But yikes, I wonder where the value of the og works on paper sit at now.

Those 70x100 were the Bearbrick sketch images if I'm not mistaken, and were slightly higher than double this. Altho that's his only release I've seen in years where originals were actually attainable as the f**k written on em combined with semi odd Bearbrick driven images was designed for such a specific market.
While I could be incorrectly informed, I think he's not doing 70x100 charcoal single images any longer. Or atleast for the next few years
Say what we will, but he's playing the make just enough game very well. And I'd argue against anyone saying he's Instagram driven.. maybe 5% of the originals he's even done are pictured in there by the owners.. fact is these are being bought, cherished, and not for sale
He hasn't done much poorly in a long time now, and he's reaping the benefits as deserved, as is Alicia with her management career, also well deserved
I'm a fan of this release having been offered out to people that have been emailing for years and hoping. At least they were given a chance to take place

If you like them great but its just not in any way even similar to Basquiat.
To me they are more like a modern twist on the very popular Margaret Keane Big Eye paintings from the 60's.

Older ones were 15x cheaper approx This isn't in reference to you in particular Jonny (and no offence intended to you), but this 'copped' phrase really bothers me. When you've just spent nearly £7500 on prints, and then talk about it as if you're lucky to have been given the opportunity to do so, or that being that quick to spend all that money before they sold out is some kind of achievement, it's perhaps a sign that things have gone too far. Is it the art that you/we enjoy, or is it the buzz of collecting? Sometimes it seems like it's all about the chase for some. I dont have the money to buy prints like this on a whim, and I cant really know how Id behave if I did, but right now this is a million miles away from how I find and buy art that gets my juices flowing. Honestly it depresses me a bit. (Like I said, no offence intended to you in particular Jonny - wasn't trying to single you out, more of a general observation)
I was taking the mickey too. I definitely don’t ‘cop’ things nor did I ‘cop’ the set. Lol

I'd buy any of his work I was allowed lol.. it's not easy as we know
In all honesty I own redhead, searched a while and luckily found one last year.. not a great deal, but it's for the wall always so that's ok..
It's just a head dripping, idk if that's a complete work either
