NFT Art , by stradled on Mar 2, 2021 12:25:21 GMT 1, Just a note on a few of the things mentioned in this thread, related back to eth.
Many people do not really look at the monetary equivalent to the currency who are actually making these massive investments. I have my crypto and I bought it at a much lower price than it is now, due to the price of the crypto now, it seems like these things are selling for a LOT of money than they really are, but most of the people buying this stuff got in to the space when crypto was a tenth of the price it is now and believe in the future of eth and therefore only care about the amount of eth they accumulate (not the monetary value) In the NFT space, some sites show $, some show eth - IMO they should all show eth
In regards to saying that they have no other uses for the currency, I would completely disagree with that - the defi space is massive and people are staking the currency in pools and using it in the same way as you would use a savings account at a normal bank. People are staking it for the eth2 protocol which changes the way the transactions are mined (not GPU, electricity heavy) and gain good rewards for doing so.
I guess what I am trying to say is this is an ever evolving ecosystem and it has lots of people experimenting - hence the floods of crap artwork - with ways to use it, but previously people would have always looked at the price/fiat and just bought and sold as the price went up or fell, but now people are not doing that, they are buying and interacting the way it was meant to be.
It still has its limitations - gas being the biggest one, but again, this is something that is being explored and worked on, it will take a while still, but the people interacting today understand this and have enough to not worry about it. When that is fixed it will be much more appealing for other people to get on board.
Also we have lots of other chains doing interesting things with their own version of NFT's (without the gas issues) like the street fighter cards, topshot (who are very clear they are in beta) apparently we have an aliens IP to do cards soon too.
It is here to stay, I am sure it will have a shift or 2 before the year is out, but I find it interesting and I like the idea and excited to see where it goes. It has opened my eyes to a lot of digital artists and I will admit, I am not happy - or rich enough to drop $7500 worth of eth on anything, but their are affordable ways to get involved and plenty of ways to follow the space if you are interested

NFT Art , by mack on Mar 2, 2021 19:10:25 GMT 1, NFT art shouldnโt age well. New styles come and go in the art world. But when technology moves forward, will people be paying a lot of money for a โlow qualityโ gif from 15 years ago? Or have I missed the point completely? Even if these are 12k HDR images that are 10GB and are future proof from that standpoint, will the actual software (app and backing technology - block chain, database, etc) still be supported? Servers for games that were popular 10 years ago have been shut down. And look at how many things Google has abandoned over the years... killedbygoogle.com/
Thatโs also an aspect of the ageing thing. But high resolution isnโt a guarantee either (maybe for a picture it is). The Grimes gif/video is still created using tools and programs not up to date. Even though the resolution is awesome, the video will most likely look patheticly outdated in a couple of years. Kids will be able to make cooler things with their phones in 10 min.

NFT Art , by Tiki on Mar 2, 2021 19:55:43 GMT 1, Opensea's definition of free is hilarious. Went over there for a look due to their 'free nft minting' offering, whilst waiting for rarible price to drop. Ethereum price was up almost 10% today so gas SHOULD be down, right? WRONG, in fact its quite the opposite (by a rather large margin). Its free but you have to make two transactions first, to the tune of... $120! What?! Complete farce! That's nothing to do with Opensea though, that is due to the network congestion on Ethereum.

I wanna venture in but as people have pointed out most of the art is basically sh*t.

(Remember buying plots of land in SecondLife) ... if you're right, it's like getting BTC at pennies or Banksy at source, if you're wrong, you're downside is limited by your investment and since most people don't want to pay taxes on their ETH (thought being that crypto has reached a linear and no longer exponential level) they are trading it for something more volatile (possibly exponential) ... then again, I don't know anything, just trying to find art / NFT that i like

I admit to not really understanding what actually has been sold. opensea.io/collection/vhils-artworks ''Vhils Explosion - Identity'' video is pretty cool. But what is it?
Description by Vhils is this: ''So much has changed since the opening of my solo exhibition HAZE at Cincinnati Contemporary Center in February 2020. It gives me chills to look at some of the pieces in the show, including this one, and how their meaning is now even more relevant in the context of the terrifying direction the world seems to be going. This is a video Work as its an Ephemeral Artwork the video is the artwork itself.''
I'm still not sure what it is... and how there's a market for that sort of thing.
Anyhow, someone bought it from the artist 3 days ago for close to 7k$, and now is asking 745k$ for it...

NFT Art , by dirtypete on Mar 3, 2021 22:01:43 GMT 1, Iโm keen to learn about NFT art, any idea where to get information on this?
Iโve been trying to look into this because I think itโs fascinating. The problem is that a lot of the information is shrouded in the cult of Crypto. Until someone comes up with a novel way of displaying these works then I donโt quite see the point. If ultimately this is just another store of wealth then I guess itโs no different to all the Monets et al locked up in bank vaults away from prying eyes.
Was Beeple a blue chip artist before he became the NFT poster child? Selling a work of art in any medium for ยฃ3m is quite a feat. Time will tell if the price is a bargain or the madness of crowds!

NFT Art , by gmidd on Mar 3, 2021 23:41:46 GMT 1, $3.2 million with 8 days to go.
For the winning bidder, apart from zooming in, is it possible to view each image in hi resolution individually also? At least would seem like youre getting a bit more value for your money that way ย
I actually like some of it. You can certainly see the progression. Although more Graphic design than art. Not sure I would have any on my walls though.
I was wondering the same thing about the individual images. Based on the resolution listed though (21,069 x 21,069 pixels) it seems unlikely that any of the individual images would be large enough to zoom in on fully. I feel like for $3mil+ you should also get a copy of all the individual images.

I think these at least have the potential to be interesting as NFTs. I'm sure they'll be like $10k each though or something ridiculous like that.

They are more like trading cards. I sure wish Magic The Gathering would have existed digitally in this way. My black lotus would have made me mad dough.
Sorry, but who the fuck wants a digital artwork, so f*cking lame.
If you are in it for money i am sure you can make money with this, but donโt get it twisted and think you are dealing in art. You are dealing in digital bullsh*t.
Sorry, but this is actually a scheme to make resale money only.
Art is about creativity, feeling and craft, this is about creating commodities.
F*ck NFTs actually piss me off.

I'm not so sure in fine art yet due to presenting them. I don't think the technology is there yet and wont be for a while. I can see in the future art groups like TeamLab using NFT to sell digital art work.

i don't know where digital art will go in the future, but one thing is for sure my art will always be physical art. what's next a digital girlfriend ? I'm a crypto fan but can't understand digital art.. need to touch smell and see it in the daylight to feel the art, digital art is too far away from this.

NFT Art , by darkarts on Mar 4, 2021 9:15:34 GMT 1, So, there will be no more complaining about flippers and โde-evaluation of the artworksโ because of them and EBay. Get ready, the future is here! You only need one solid platform and one strong currency (already existing it looks like: ETH) You make a great point and I think the strong currency for art NFTs will be ADA on Cardano as the "gas" fees (cost of minting / transacting) will be much less.

NFT Art , by Warm Gun on Mar 4, 2021 9:36:23 GMT 1, Banksy Burning. I guess you have seen this already? never seen something more stupid than this video! i don't know where digital art will go in the future, but one thing is for sure my art will always be physical art. what's next a digital girlfriend ? I'm a crypto fan but can't understand digital art.. need to touch smell and see it in the daylight to feel the art, digital art is too far away from this. Guess you've never seen the KLF burning a million pounds video

This generation has no style
