Didn't KAWS do something like this last year with the virtual acute thing or whatever he sold as an edition? I think they also came with a COA, at least something physical with the NFT.

Look I think its weird too but you gotta think about the youth who are growing up in a very different world than you or I. The idea is its decentralized so who cares if your hard drive crashes - it always exists in the blockchain (internet). The only real risk you run is losing your password like the stories of those dudes who have millions of $$ in bitcoin from years back but cant remember their password. For something like a print it makes sense because you have full ownership. You can use that PNG for whatever you'd like. Put the image on a mug. Fuck it. I guess to some people that's more valuable. (I'm not saying I fall in this category but I'm just trying to see it from their POV.) Its a bit different for an original piece though thats painted. You can't exactly replicate that after even after owning the digital aspect of it. In that case I think the NFT becomes the equivalent of a COA but instead of losing it within a stack of papers it just now exists in your virtual wallet (same as your iphone wallet for example). You don't understand terms and conditions. You aren't buying something that you can do whatever with, including selling. That's not necessarily true. It depends on the artist or the project. Hashmasks is a project where the owner of the hashmask also owns the copyright to the hashmask and can therefore sell mugs, tshirts, physical prints, digital prints, whatever.

NFT Art , by Gentle Mental on Mar 11, 2021 3:53:35 GMT 1, This is only the beginning. It will evolve and be better. All good tech does. It’s always shit at first.
I like the idea of physical piece linked to an NFT. Like the kings of Leon release.
This works well with giclee. If the physical piece gets damaged we can print another. The ownership/provenance is still intact.
It’s the ultimate, most fluid COA.
The current batch of art is mostly shit. It will get better when the big name non digital artists get into the game.
Time to load up your crypto wallet!!

NFT Art , by Gentle Mental on Mar 11, 2021 4:35:52 GMT 1, Facebook evolved from MySpace. As films to DVD to streaming. And yahoo to Google. The list goes on.
It’s not the sites or the software - they get obsolete.
It’s the ideas that can’t be denied. Better tech will prevail - regardless of the companies running them.
I love my vinyls and silkscreens. But I listen to Spotify and stare at LED sceeens most of the time.
Crypto is the future. Read ”Life After Google” to get a hint.

A huge amount of data and academic papers on the psychology of collecting and how to trigger it. NFT ain't grassroots, that's for sure.

NFT Art , by theclash on Mar 11, 2021 8:51:08 GMT 1, Is Nifty the only place to get NFT art/collectibles? Where else could we find more (and better) NFT art? Million thanks.
If you want to get involved and understand the space you will really need to get on the Discord channels for Nifty, Opensea, Makersplace. There is a lot of rubbish but you can get up the curve quickly and plenty of people willing to help. Clubhouse has a bunch of rooms some of which are pretty useful.

NFT Art , by theclash on Mar 11, 2021 8:56:43 GMT 1, Yes, in fact I think it was 5 minutes.
I am also keen to learn more and have been reading into it a bit lately.
Maybe its a generational thing but I feel Art is a tangible pursuit - you buy work you like and you hang it on your wall to admire - simple.
Problem I'm having is I just dont get what you do with it exactly?! Whats the point of it if it's stuck on your hard drive or mobile? Much like all your other photos and media, to be eventually forgotten about.
Is it just another speculative storage of wealth with everyone banking on the next hit or like Pokemon?
I dont see many mainstream artists crossing over yet but I could be wrong. The Beeple/Christies sale should be interesting. Not like them to take risks
A big bunch of people have made 1 to 10’s million USD in ethereum and don’t yet want to flip back to fiat. NFT art is a way of diversifying and/or feeling good. Will it work? No idea but as long as Eth keeps rising I think NTF is only getting bigger. $25m for Beeple in Christie’s seems about right
7 hours to go in the Beeple, Christie’s auction. $13.25m bid right now, my $25m estimate not looking so bananas now but let’s see where it ends up. The general coverage is about explode and notable real world artists are going to start getting involved

This is exactly my feeling. The people getting into NFTs now remind me of online casino gamblers. They have some disposable income in crypto, and an interest in collecting things like Supreme and Kaws, and have got sucked into a new type of collecting//investment opportunity (modern day pyramid scheme)
But I also see it’s not so different to buying a print, looking at it once, and sticking it in a portfolio, then reselling it in 5 years for 10 times the value! I think we’re just waiting for the wave of NFTs that actually appeal to us... probably by artists we understand.

We will all be on our keyboards all night bidding and bitching as we have done before with paper prints and printout COAs.
No more shipping insurance, creases and sun damage worries!
There will be blood. This too shall pass. The only constant is change. Time to move from zero to one. I’m thinking of ending things.

Or maybe it’s a case of not quite owning the intellectual property of something but can claim to be ahead of the curve because you’ve embraced something new and everyone else are luddites? Maybe it’s all about having more money than possibly sense? Maybe just another head to toxic capitalism? Or maybe people like the idea of a polished turds?
Of course, I’m sure I’ve missed the point behind NFT.

NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 11, 2021 14:21:02 GMT 1, While I do believe there might be use for crypto coins and NFTs.
Coinbase (Tim Draper) and NFTY Gateway (Winklevoss twins) both have pump and dump written all over it. Both want to get as many user as possible now, take the companies public, make a ton of money in stocks, dump it slowly and get out before the entire thing crashes. This a classic silicon valley plan.
Us idiots will make Tim Draper another billion dollars - so his wealthy family can rule the bay area for generations and generations. Tim Draper is THE CONNECTION between Tesla and bitcoin. He sits at the top of Tesla's board of directors (and Coinbase) and it was him who pushed Bitcoin not Elon. Elon went with it but Tim is the one who is trying to get as many corporations to purchase bitcoin right now to help Coinbase have a massive IPO. Tim is going around right now saying Apple and Netflix will purchase bitcoin as well; which is not true at all. This a total scam for Coinbase IPO and I love watching these idiots fall for this. Anyone who can't see this... isn't old enough to know what the tech world is really all about.
There is nothing NEW about this technology as well. People who say "this is the future or a new art medium" clearly don't really know anything about technology. The token itself is not a medium at all. You are using old files, MP4s and JPEGs, to make NFTs. Most NFT files being sold right now are not even large enough files to do anything with. They are extremely limited and low rate files.
Also - this is very important - you do not own the copyright or actual painting so for fine art there really isn't any value to this. You aren't even getting TIFFs, large files or the original files they used to layer these things. Basically they are trying to put a value on any old computer file - this is clearly a scam. Even for COAs - NFT - hasn't been really proven yet to be the best for that.
Again right now all of this is to get a massive user base like a facebook, take these two company public - or sell - and dump them once they do. Draper and the Winklevoss Twins will make a few hundred million off us idiots, dump the stocks slowly in the companies, before this thing crashes and they will move on. This is so classic silicon valley - it is bleeding greed from all sides.
While I do believe there might be use for crypto coins and NFTs.
