I have worked out my problem with Peterson's work. It makes violence decorative that doesnt sit well with me. Its all anonymous semi mythical so doesnt relate to any contemporary atrocities.

I see that point of view, some of the imagery is excessively violent.
At least for me Cleons work is similar to one of my favorite segments of art, Greek geometric. As with ancient Greeks and Romans the use of violence was used to to depict mythical tales and battles, I see Cleons works as a glimpse into a bigger story but I see why many aren’t a fan of his work. Hopefully I won’t be judged when people see it on my wall, if anything perhaps we can come up with the story behind the image.

Surely if you are “one of them”… I can understand the type of person.

First off let me say I'm not a Trump supporter.

I did think the images he did with Trump were on point, but more like political cartoons, suitable for the illustration of newspapers/political magazines and they might have even been used as such.

Now, 99% of the work of Cleon is very graphic and violent, but it's still fairly abstracted. I guess I could never imagine hanging one of those political pieces because of how clearly it was Trump being depicted. Same thing with covid related art, it's just too depressing.

I find the work of Cleon Peterson appealing in the same way I like violent movies, a bit over the top like a Tarantino film. I have no problem with violence in art, go to the Louvre and the amount of severed heads are staggering. Art and violence go hand in hand.

That said, I owned and framed 'Into the sun' but it never made the wall in my house because I pick my battles when it comes to the art I hang at home and I understand it's not for everybody. Instead I had it over my desk at work for a while, never had any complaints. I've sold it some time ago..
