people, it's KAWS we talking about, and every release has a lot of HYPE around it.. if its random drop on his website, the site crashes and things oversell, if it's fair in NY, people dont get who got what and how, if it's a book/print release via museum, things get delayed for months, if its store sale in Tokyo, people line up around the blocks.. I just dont see how could he possibly release a limited edition ANYTHING, and make everyone happy?!..

I've put my name down for the general public sale few hrs ago, and was told Im around 20th on that list.. which knowing how things work with his releases, is as good as nothing..

I have NO problem with the museum selling to prominent members first, that's the way they operate and is exactly why I contacted membership immediately.

However, I do have a problem with the museum using the Kaws release to BOOST membership sales AFTER the print has been sold out/all prints spoken for.

A few FB friends have been told by some staff at the museum (not the membership person I dealt with) that all they had to do was become a member at any level, and were also told that their current members weren't that interested in KAWS, so they would be guaranteed a print on Friday.

I was not told of a reservation list when I contacted about the print, but I was led to believe IF I joined a certain level I could purchase a print.

The previous 2 colours have struggled to sell on ebay for around $1600 (Ask prices have been higher, but gone unsold)... so certainly not worth joining the museum just to have a chance at this!

My opinion is that this will be amazing in person. Have never been a fan of his prints and thought that he could have easily released much more appealing subjects. But i will be chasing this one and expect it to be a stunner.

I do like KAWS allot but was never a fan of the sponge bob series. Looking forward to his next batch of work.

Not that surprising, hoity toity museum donors from Texas. Not Kaws' market at all. The museum's curators and directors were/are probably taking a risk showing Kaws. Great they were able to get funding for that set of Tondo's.

The Yellow spongebob was $800 and a no brainer at that price. The Black one is arguably the best so at $1200 still a good deal. But at $1700-1800 for the membership and print - I thought a lot of people would drop out. Even though I know some will sell for that or more on ebay.

I wasn't willing to put out for a premier membership and it looks like it paid off cause I just had $1200 charged to my card. ;D
(I guess shipping will be charged at a later date)

I was about 20-30 on the list of people after the premier members had their chance so less than 70-80 people opted for the membership fee plus print deal.

I was also told I was about 30th so I hope I get one. I don't see any charges on my card but Mine always seems to take a day or two to reflect new charges.
