Bast, by motor on May 5, 2021 15:29:54 GMT 1, I’m still processing this terrible news. Very sad. We’ve lost a true pioneer of this era, a proper tour de force. However, Mike has left an everlasting legacy and that’s something not many of us will be able to do once is our time to go too. Respect.

Banksy posted it on the funeral home’s obituary page.
Probably didn’t want to make a big public display, but seems to be going viral anyway!

Bast, by bonesy on May 5, 2021 15:54:50 GMT 1, The only thing I could compare this feeling to is when a musician whose lyrics you deeply connect with passes away. You may not have known them personally, but they communicate so well through their craft that you feel like you do. For Bast to give this same feeling of loss having only communicated through some weird-ass imagery and not words is a huge testament to him and the body of work he left us.

Bast, by kaimac on May 5, 2021 18:38:01 GMT 1, When the time is right, would anyone on the board be interested in having a whip round to do something in his honor? I have a couple of connections to the family, so once a little time has passed I could reach out and get their guidance.
Do people feel that would be appropriate and/or of interest? Get a few quid together and do something in tribute. A tree or bench would be a traditional approach, or maybe we could find a wall in Brooklyn and get something up in his honor. Or both. Subject to family approval, obviously.

A writers bench in Brooklyn with a plaque would be awesome. Happy to chip in. Maybe set up a Gofundme when things have settled down for the family a little.

Bast, by peas on May 5, 2021 19:52:04 GMT 1, I knew Mikey both personally and professionally.
I'm at a loss for words, so I'll use some of his that sums him up perfectly for me:
"What can I say about myself?"
"I go to sleep with a pizza on my chest. It's embarrassing."
Sleep well, dear Basto, be it with or without a pizza on your chest.
