... also covid is here to stay.

Damien Hirst Signed Coca Cola Can, by willamsa on Apr 22, 2021 15:50:20 GMT 1, I cant believe people are arguing over signatures on the bottom of coke cans. Damien must be laughing his head off. To be fair I think Damien has been laughing his head off since 1991 when he sold a dead shark for millions

The Signed cans for a £1 are little readymades. They're awesome. Don't forget a £1 coin

Damien Hirst Signed Coca Cola Can, by mj on Apr 22, 2021 16:21:46 GMT 1, Come on peeps, if you really think all of this cans are hand-signed you are mistaken. They are either auto signed or stamped signature the same way the NHS butterfly rainbows, either way its something nice to get for £1 from the show. Enjoy your coke

I can't remember the last time I actually handled real coins or bank notes.
Yeah I know!.. had to visit the 90s i.e cash machine, remember my pin.. then find somewhere to break a note... What a faff!... Almost as old as the idea of readymade art 🙄

Damien Hirst Signed Coca Cola Can, by smj43 on Apr 22, 2021 20:25:26 GMT 1, Does anyone know if Mr Hirst will be making an appearance at some point or has been seen in attendance already? Was planning on paying a visit at the weekend.
It’s only open on Saturdays and looks like it’s fully booked this weekend. On his Instagram there are a few videos of him at the gallery last week.

Damien Hirst Signed Coca Cola Can, by met on Apr 24, 2021 17:31:26 GMT 1, Went today, as I left a middle aged man was being asked about his multiple visits and told he was not allowed to buy any more cans.. which was humorous.
Imagine how the security guard and other gallery staff must feel — having to keep a constant eye out for chancers trying to get more than their permitted share of Coke cans.
Being repeatedly forced to witness that kind of thing must have the potential to change somebody as a person. They risk becoming world-weary almost overnight. Perhaps even misanthropic.
[The situation may have been similar for attendants at the 2019 Gross Domestic Product shop in Croydon, after news spread that screenprinted posters were being handed out to kids.
But the spectacle there (at least at the beginning) would have been seedier:
It was grownups paying random youngsters to get freebies for them. Or turning up to GDP with rent-a-kids who'd been given advance instructions to ask for posters. "Okay, children, now give me your entire stash like we agreed and I'll take you for a Happy Meal."
Once the free posters were secured and carefully hidden from view, inevitably there'd be adults who would continue lurking in the area — first waiting for the GDP attendants to go on breaks or change shifts, before wheeling their young crews back out again for yet another round of imploring eye-contact or outright begging with the new attendants.
Apparently, some grownups were highly successful and "got fucking loads"*.]
__________
Regarding the middle-aged man at Gagosian, while it may be a case of misplaced empathy on my part, I do feel bad for his younger self.
One would hope that, at the age of 17 or 18, this chap had the world at his feet. That he had talent to do pretty much anything. That his dreams were big, and in his heart he knew he would make an actual difference — by leading a fulfilling life. A noble life with real purpose.
Sadly, what I now picture is this teenager receiving the most almighty of slaps to the face. He is told the following:
"Er, no. Absolutely not. What on earth have you been thinking? Your life won't have purpose; it will be meaningless. You will not do great things. Instead, you'll waste precious time, squander opportunities and end up becoming a truly petty individual.
In the eyes of others, the incident that defines you will occur upon reaching middle age: You'll be scolded in public for being a sneaky rat, after you're caught trying to buy multiple cans of soda pop to resell on eBay.
Buckle up, young man. That is the wretched future that awaits you."
It's the kind of thought which could bring me to tears.

Legend, but ironically the last one of these sold for about €250,000 which again probably highlights how ludicrous the fine art market is. I think in both cases the artists are probably chuckling to themselves that somewhere someone has a can of coke/shit signed by them in Perspex box on their mantle.

I find these interesting because no one can know if they truly contain the artist’s shit, about which there is some doubt. The only way to know would be to open it, and in doing so destroy the artwork.
