Rules on purchases of that high in value are quite strict. You can’t just show up with a bag full of cash, no ID, and walk away.

These days its hard to gauge primary values especially on prints as the market is so soft but for me this is a nice little purchase

Sad to see this place full of more speculators than collectors.

Some here have a short term view.. this market won't stay soft forever, and the editions market at primary seems healthy with blue chip names selling out where the price seems right.. kaws, yearwood Dan, Baselitz, Eisenman, Doig, Simão, ai Weiwei recently.. I suspect this one will too (along with the Pendleton and Hirst paintings)

When the market's soft and you think that it'll come back someday, you buy originals. Galleries are getting desperate these days sending out unsolicited pdfs with prices. It hasn't been this easy in awhile to buy an original. The print market is and will continue to be oversaturated with unspectacular release after another so you're just throwing money away. If you buy a print, make sure that it's an image that's worthy of going on a wall, not this crap.

Market is oversaturated with new artists as well. Galleries are closing down and a lot of people lost money on originals this year as well. It’s a risky time for art in general.

Isn’t this somewhat his signature imagery? If you hate this print then most likely his work really isn’t for you?

I think the print isn’t a bargain but isn’t that bad either as far as pricing. Compared to the small man 2021 print the edition size is higher and therefore the price lower, seems fair.
To put things in perspective a lot of shrigley’a prints sold on primary at the same price (higher tier).
I believe if you like Rashid Johnson’s art it won’t get any better than this (pricewise)

Just seen Kordansky is collaborating with Artspace and Phaidon on these so their gallery will take some for their clients. They should be able to allocate 100 of these quite quickly between them.
