This thread is a super interesting read about the hype culture and how things are getting pumped. In my opinion any hype in art is fake hype because art is very subjective; There are very select few artists that do not copy or "borrow" inspiration from other artists so unless it's the OG artist it's overhyped by default.
The only difference in this story is that it's easier to see how the hype builds up, but mayfair galleries and others pump artists all the time, it's just being pumped differently and behind the scenes. In example I personally don't like Connor Brothers but I can definitely see how the hype pump drove their priced upwards, and now with mayfair galleries backing it's skyrocketing.
Just buy Art you like... (I actually like this Arlo Sinclair, because as a geek it touches a point).

There's no issue with that basic premise at all... just something fishy about Arlo's website and the Publisher's website (that months later he says he's working with) all being registered by Mark.
Is Mark actually Arlo? That would be absolutely fine, but why not be honest about it?
Maybe it's innocent, but looks suspicious... As does some members here getting excited about 2 artists they discovered, that suddenly are represented by the same publisher... You can't help feeling that perhaps one of those members is also Mark ?!

The way it looks to me is that Arlo started releasing some nice works but had no management. I’m guessing that someone,possibly Mark, has spotted this and decided to have a go at representing the artist and has started Toxic.
With regards to certain members ‘pushing’ the artist on here, it’s a bit irritating but no more than that surely?

Quotation marks means exact match.

Arlo’s website was registered by Mark a few months before he created Toxic… so that’s what’s slightly suspicious.
Could be innocent… and you’re right, the pushing of artists someone’s bought into isn’t a new thing here

At the time I'm not sure he had any management and wanted to free up more time to paint and I don't think he had a website.
How the thing with Toxic came about I do not know but the timing seems legit on the basis that a website was probably created for him by his publishing company.

To repeatedly 'discover' and 'churn out' artists (that may or may not exist in reality), with very basic design concepts and simplified ideas only goes so far and becomes repetitive and transparent. It starts to feel as though you are trying to fool people into buying rather than genuinely having belief in the work/concept you are publishing and trying to sell. All the stuff about being on waiting lists and selling out of an edition before its even been produced is just nonsense, trying to create false demand like that only backfires and is not sustainable. Over the years the "is it or isn't it by Banksy?" is a very oppertunistic but now a very tired way of tricking people into buying substandard work that definitely isn't. It just all looks like very inferior Banksy/Stik/Harland/Opie copies (or any other successful artists sold on this forum).
If people genuinely like and vibe with the images/artwork then great buy it and enjoy it, but please! it takes more than a few sales and perpetual hype to make a successful artist, theres generally a hell of a lot of hard work, patience, planning and money involved...and talent. But 10/10 for trying and good luck.
