Why? Itโs nice to discuss peopleโs passion. This is a forum of collectors. Is it the value that you find offensive?
Iโm not going to embarrass the individuals by pointing them out - but thereโs a real lack of humility in some of the posts in this thread.
No need to be sideways Balboa
I personally am not embarrassed about contributing to a thread about collecting watches. I love watches. They are nice things to have. Just like art, You look at them and you enjoy them, you understand their history and if you are in a position to do so, you may be able to start a collection. That is what I did. When I stopped drinking/drugging/gambling, I got clean and got my life back on track and I wanted to teach myself how to find a way to not keep my money in the bank and be able to enjoy it more and at the same time, have some possessions that I could pass down to my son and maybe teach him some things differently from the way I was taught.
For me, this forum is a way to keep me occupied for parts of each day and take a little bit of my mind off of the atrocities that are going on, the MH issues that I have and also the fact that I have been testing positive for COV-19 for past 3 weeks. My watches along with my art are just things. None of them make me feel any better as a person. None of them are needs. They are simply Bi-products of decisions I made in the past.
If you really wanted to, you could unpick hundreds of threads on this forum and say there is a lack of humility within a lot of them
I would swap all my material possessions to be able to have my business back, spend time with my friends and loved ones again, not have a plandemic and illegal non-trialled vaccine, for some sort of normality to return in my life.
We donโt take any of it with us when its time for us to go.
But until such time, Ill personally keep doing whatever necessary to stop myself from going insane. If that comes across to anyone like I don't have any humility then I would say it is not really any of my business what people think of me.
See Itโs good to share...and probably saved me from having to do a meeting today.

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by billybob1969 on Jan 27, 2021 0:17:23 GMT 1, I have a stunning collection of dildos and buttplugs, I have a very rare Silki buttplug from 1968 that is diamond encrusted and now discontinued, highly collectible. My collection has been valued at over ยฃ1.5m but Iโm not one to show off, I used to have a watch collection but thatโs just really embarrassing and cringy so I switched to sex toys.

Not a collector, just have one nice watch that never leaves my wrist. Panerai radiomir (PAM384) ceramic manual wind, Iโm a fan of the brand especially their ceramic and carbotech watches.
Beautiful watch! Was a PAM guy. I still have an 005 which I kept as a casual/everyday watch. However, I am rebelling against the modern sizes and have been wearing an Explorer 114270 for the past 3 months. It is so liberating not to bang your watch against a door or furniture.

Contrasting watches from either 'end' of my collection. 5513 1969 with lots of wabi-sabi I bought for ยฃ200 as a graduation present from Art School in 1985 and Casio from Argosโฆ love them both.

What watch is a good entry into the world of investing in watches
Do some research and work out what YOU like first. Watch market is looking a bit peaky right now and you could do so much better elsewhere investment wise. Do you buy art the same way?
Itโs always good to talk and listen to other people views before you make a decision yourself . And in answer to your question do you buy art the same way ,No I bought it because I liked it firstly luckily for me it included Banksy

Spend some time to ponder your fine collection rather than trolling a thread you clearly have no interest in rather than to receive fulfilment from strangers , narcissist? urbanartassociation.com/user/29537/recent_threads
Or if you want to be even more productive with your time, I am sure plenty of paperwork to file for the healthy profits generated over the last year . Multiple accounts here?

jonny these guys are worth a look. Iโm sure other more serious collectors will have an opinion on them, but for me they have a good selection, and a proper bricks and mortar presence in London which is a bonus for servicing etc if youโre local and not in the midst of a pandemic...

This place is one of the most expensive places to buy pre owned vintage Rolex from.
They mostly cater to passing wealthy tourists of Mayfair and Bond St.

Nice looking selection but the prices, even with the permanently offered discounts, are far above the market. A good place to buy if overpaying is no issue.

Thanks, Had a look but as others have said they are quite expensive. I wouldnโt mind paying it if I could go to a brick and mortar store to try on a few and have that face to face interaction for all my questions but as I am in Australia, there are very few shops available for me to go and have a look so the internet is my best option for now.

If you end up buying a vintage model it is best to send away for an official Rolex service, cost ยฃ500, they will check the watch over and advise of any parts to replace, they will send you a Final cost before you agree to the contract and any payments made, if any parts found not to be correct you do not proceed with the service no payments made and you have an document from Rolex to get a refund .
Many Frankenstein watches around even with high end dealers, people swap out parts for replicated parts, on the lv16610 the bezels are often replaced for copy parts as these sell for ยฃ1000-ยฃ3000 on their own.

I second this. Too many Frankenstein Rolex around especially with vintage watches. I would look at watchuseek, timezone, rolexforums and see if anyone can recommend a used watch dealer in Australia.

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by J0NNY on Feb 4, 2021 13:14:47 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice guys, I think I will try a few stores first. I might even leave it until I am next in the UK or US as I will most probably get a lot more selection. As for the Rolex service - sounds like a no brainer!

The 5513 is starting to become sought after, especially with some dealers marketing as birth year watches, with the sentimental value also ,one I would keep and pass on

The 5711 has just been consigned as he gets a really good sellers fee through his work. He works in the luxury watch market.

etched โข I will take that interpolation ....We can stop clutching the pearls now !!
tullyart โข yes this peice is still available - will take a reasonble offer ?
reg โข Would love to know what comes first though, the canvas or the idea. He could have waited years for a canvas like this to appear.
reg โข Think you're joining too many dots tbh. More likely a stoneage man using 21st century methods to put back the damage done by the modern custodians of the planet.
Jeezuz Jones Snr โข I created a thread called 'Art market current prices'? Can anyone see it? I can only see it when logged in. Silky deleted it?

reg โข Took a long time imo. Should've been fenced off on Monday, still no perspex over the main image. Idiot landlord.
arttrooper โข Looking for older Faile prints anyone selling at good prices
