I don't think he is interested on making a few extra euros from the kits. The charity kit was sold at market value but most of the kits were sold below market value, probably intentionally for a bit of fun and as a low entry item for his fans that couldn't afford an original, same as most of the prints, stickers, runners, ...

Ahahaha you talk about a few euros...if you consider that flashinvaders has been sold out in less than two minutes, and its price was 800 euro, it means 200k with just an eye blink.... Not bad at all....

Quick update.

Thanks for al the offers.

I had 3 buyers, who all went silent (thanks chaps, as we all know being civil is overrated and sending a quick message saying "I changed my mind" very tedious).

Am ideally looking for a local deal but this is framed with perspex / acrylic so can easily be shipped by FL if buyer wanted to do that.

First - thanks to the helpful UAA members who've given me good advice via PMs, on this thread and through eBay, (you know who you are).

I've linked to this thread from within the auction description as it was obvious that UAA members were recognising the kit, anyone typing "Invasion Kit 02 Octopus" into Google will end up here.

As heller says, it'll be interesting to see what this sells for - I suspect it'll be a bargain compared to what a sealed kit goes for. But my IK02 has led a long and happy life invading my home for the last 14 years, it's time to set it free

Interested to see what it goes for. Everyone is always slamming the flippers, and demanding that works be purchased for the wall, forever. Here we have a maybe/probably genuine Invader with unfortunately very little resale value. Maybe there is the hope of getting the provenance sorted to spur prices on a bit, but essentially it is what is it. You pay up, put it up and enjoy it.

I'll be watching. I would stick it up on the back of my house.

• Private bidding was a mistake by me when I set up the auction. If I could change it, I would... I've offered to be completely transparent to the winning bidder on the bid history
• Orbi responded today with apologies for the delay. I've updated the auction with all the details - but here's the email body - there's good news and bad news!

Bid on it for what it is - an as near as genuine piece as possible, that will look great but have no resale value at all

For me, it's the perfect piece to actually fix to your house and be damned with the consequences

- a kit its: ceramic + bag + instruction

I really want to trust the story but that just mean that if you have the same ceramic tiles as IK2 you can sell it more than the price of the tiles..

Getting up to a grand. I think that puts it past my limit for something cool for the back garden wall. My guess is we see this again soon, with some meatier provenance attached and a much bigger ticket.

As a few people on UAA were interested in how the sale of this item went - I thought I'd give a quick update now the auction has ended.

I had over 160 watchers which steadily increased during the week, the main bidding appeared to be between a gallery in the USA and a couple of private bidders who took the price to just over £1000 with a few hours to go.

The final few seconds took the price from £1100 to the final sale price of £1609.77. The winning bidder placed a single bid with 5 seconds to go. It was sold to a private buyer, based in the USA with a well established eBay account. I have received cleared PayPal funds, been in contact with the buyer and will ship tomorrow.

I'm very happy with the final price, I'd received several offers via PM here of around $500. I'd also been given a valuation of between $3000 - $5000 which seemed too high. I really didn't have a lot to go on, I'd never seen an IK for sale without the instructions/bag so it was a gamble putting it on eBay with no reserve and a £0.01 starting price. Its been a long time since I sold anything on eBay - but for higher value items I always put as much detail as possible into my listings. I look at some of the listings with 1-2 lines of text and asking prices over £10k and think - "really"? There's a few Invader items on eBay that could do with a bit of TLC in the listing description - and a reality check on prices... Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Anyway - that's my 2ps worth. Discovering this whole scene has been really interesting, I've already bought some stuff I really like and would never have found had I not ended up here. Once again, thanks to everyone who showed an interest and maybe I'll pop up now-and again as I get deeper into this "hobby"

The Kit has been bought at the exhibit in London in 2007,it has been opened and I still have the original packaging as well as the white paper on the back. It is numbered by the artist. If anyone would be interested please let me know, I can ship to Europe and US.

Not that Im doubting you, I just happen to have done quite a bit of research in to all the Invasion kits (I'm compiling a bit of a guide as well as making a few of my own) and your tiles seem a little off.

It could just be the way you have shot the kit though and the lighting involved coupled with still having the film on the front.

Here are some examples of the same kit in the hands of other collectors:













Perhaps you could take a few more photos of your kit in a different light? Could we also please see a photo of the back of the kit as I can match the tiles based on their pattern.

I'm sure everything is ok and you did buy your kit back in 2007 at the exhibit, it will just give me a bit of piece of mind knowing that no forum member will lose out, especially with this being your first post and all...
