I need to play (and win) Euromillions before the 22....
But apart crazy estimates, pretty nice stuff...

Artcurial Art Auctions , by Cedric Mnich on Jan 2, 2013 18:27:14 GMT 1, JR estimates are very low imho. The Louis Philippe bridge was for sale at LAZ at 3K I think. estimate is almost the original sale price (whereas it's a 80 print edition)

Artcurial Art Auctions , by octopus on Jan 2, 2013 19:25:09 GMT 1, It's a shame that once again French auctioneers and "experts" are putting non-sensical evaluations... Was it the last Street Art auction at Piasa that had 70% of lots unsold?

agreed... some very low, some very high... it's gonna be interesting to follow.
Any French forum members planning to attend the auction ? (or any of the smaller special events before ?) We can book a front row ;D

Artcurial Art Auctions , by jojo21 on Jan 6, 2013 5:47:46 GMT 1, some very good pieces in that sale. futura, banksy, fairey, C215.
what about the estimates? difficult to say as it keep increasing for some of them. JR for exemple was 500e a year ago for a print and it goes for 5 times the original price.
banksy, 90-120k, why not?
the stencils by obey will definitly go for more than 30k, they have good pieces at this auction.
nice collection of obey prints as well. pricey but still a cheap buy for a not aware guy. definitly not for a forum person.
let s see how it goes, in france street art is hot.
i ll be there...

Agreed...I predict a record of unsold lots! French auctioneers need to get a grip with prices...

Hi Guys, you are maybe not aware of an important point: In France, Art is exempted of the "wealth tax", which mean that a lot of wealthy people are buying art as investement and this also save them a lot of money in Taxes (which are crazy high in France, like the estimates )
So, I'm not so sure it's gonna be a big flop... But for me, no impact, I pay my taxes in Switzerland anyway ;D

I disagree that the success of auction sales are related to the non payment of ISF in France. Let's have a look at the last Street/Urban art auctions organised in France in 2012::when you register more than 50% of the lots unsold, you are doing something wrong... auctioneers and "experts" need to do some serious ground work and present better priced lots in their catalogue. But that's only my personal views.

But as you can read in my previous posts, I totally agree with the estimates being way too high (except for JR and a couple of others). And yes, it seems like an attempt from Artcurial to drive the price up... they are biggest street art auctionner in France. That said, let's wait until the 22nd to see what happen... "Since when do you guys pay any taxes in Switzerland ? ;-)" Shoot Again: ;D ;D ;D Ok ok... not much... but more than Monaco, Dubai or Qatar... and at least, we have a real democracy, cool mountains, hot summer and weed shops (But also a tendancy to clean walls a bit too rapidly IMHO...)

I really can't see it all unless there are shadowy forces at work..... Or the French economy has suddenly swung into overdrive.

Thanks for the pics trax.
Really liking the small Dface, the black TMA New York (is that hand sprayed?) and the small Invader (is that a canvas? must be quite pricey!). Never seen that black and gold version of the large American Depress card, were they a small edition not at the BRP show?
Oh, and the building looks spectacular!

the place was packed and the guys from artcurial said that they already have orders for more than half of the lots... and they will extand the auction room because of the large amount of people expected.
let's see how it goes.

Artcurial Art Auctions , by Cedric Mnich on Jan 21, 2013 10:44:17 GMT 1, Went to Artcurial as well yesterday. Very nice pieces. Was happy to see the metal blue Katrin Fridriks print which is gorgeous (and was nicely framed) though I am quite surprised it already hits an auction only a few weeks after its release. Same for the Conor Harrington print. It's either pure speculation or obvious "artist value enhancing" imho. The JR prints looked undervalued from my pov. The Louis Philippe bridge was estimated 700-900 which is hard to understand... I own one, it is a 85 edition, was originally 650 EUR and the frame alone probably costed more than 150 or 200 EUR. The very same orint was recently proposed by LAZ in the mailing list at more than 2500 GBP... All the other JRs were estimated around 1200-1500 EUR. Weird.
