I think salon hanging can have a great impact.
And if, like me, you enjoy spending time looking at pieces in your collection (I know you do), then you get to see much more of it.
Most of my house looks very much like your pictures, though the quality of the collection, sadly, does not!

Seems to work better in rooms with lower ceilings, as long as its well curated.
