Jameson Robinson π¬π§ Print Release β’ Show News β’ For Sale, by Deleted on Mar 15, 2021 11:14:49 GMT 1, The underlying art that he is basing his work on is great, hence the tributes. People buying these are arguably making the mental leap that by doing so they are somehow accessing an original with the lineage to and magic of the underlying art which it is paying tribute to. It's all a little bit nerdy and naff. I buy them because I think they're funny.
In terms of concept, I don't see what's vastly different between Jameson Robinson turning the Penguin logo into a sort of Zelig figure wandering his way through other artworks and someone like Kaws putting X-eyes on The Simpsons/Spongebob/Snoopy. Both rely on someone else's art doing the heavy lifting. There are tons of examples of artists whose work relies on just adding their own tweak to someone else's work. Robinson at least does it with a sense of humour and lack of pretension.
People who don't like Robinson seem to take him a lot more seriously than those who do.

Jameson Robinson π¬π§ Print Release β’ Show News β’ For Sale, by Deleted on Mar 15, 2021 12:26:23 GMT 1, OK... More accurate to say future Robinson bag holder! Accede that there is a bit of traction right now and those that chose to make the aforementioned mental leap are loading up. Ah, you're assuming people are buying as investment? (I had to look up the term "bag holder")
Nope, buying because I like them. If I were buying for investment, my current exposure on three pieces is about Β£260, so I think I can weather this storm.

Jameson Robinson π¬π§ Print Release β’ Show News β’ For Sale, by mrizzle on Mar 15, 2021 15:31:14 GMT 1, The underlying art that he is basing his work on is great, hence the tributes. People buying these are arguably making the mental leap that by doing so they are somehow accessing an original with the lineage to and magic of the underlying art which it is paying tribute to. It's all a little bit nerdy and naff.
I normally avoid disagreement or conflict but I have to respectfully dispute this claim. I think thatβs a rather unfair assertion and one which is wholly unrepresentative of why people (such as myself) buy his work.
I greatly enjoy what Jameson is doing and I have really enjoyed seeing his new concepts, processes becoming increasingly refined, deft subtle touches and generally watching his development. I find that, on the most basic level, it makes me happy and I get huge pleasure from the pieces I own. Add to that the fact that heβs just an absolutely stellar gentleman who loves and appreciates art. It is no wonder that he has an increasing number of fans. I think he more than deserves the support he gets and I gladly lend mine and have been fortunate enough to have had many really charming interactions with him. He really is a top top fella.
His first print is a milestone and one that I think is wonderfully executed...and a total sell out. Well done Jameson I say and happy that Iβve secured two pieces from the first set of prints. Canβt wait to see them.

Canβt wait to see them. Β Your pushback is respectfully noted π It's a milestone for all the wrong reasons. However, at the end of the day you are, in your own words, garnering huge pleasure from all of this. So carry on buying by all means! What's really fascinating to me though with this Robinson chap is when another artist becomes 'significant' enough for him to pay homage to. There needs to be a significant 'gap'. It's a select group. A casual scroll of his Instagram account reveals artistic delights running to Haring, Indiana, Warhol, Banksy, Nara, Miller, STIK, Thierry Noir, Hirst, Invader. All heavyweights that will stand the test of time. Who's next to be coronated? π That's the list to watch!
Always happy to entertain constructive and respectful discussion. I think the wonderful thing about the subjective nature of art is the diversity of opinion it can generate.
Jamesonβs collection is pretty incredible isnβt it? Nice to see someone who appreciates a broad spectrum of artists and he shares some really interesting insights and backstories. His is a page well worth following if you are a lover of art (even if not of his art).

Jameson Robinson π¬π§ Print Release β’ Show News β’ For Sale, by mrizzle on Apr 11, 2021 15:51:32 GMT 1, Theyβre well worth seeking out but I think you might have a tough time wrestling them from anyone who has bought them.Β
Popped mine up on the wall yesterday. Iβd initially a different spot in mind but always found this particular wall a bit of a puzzling space. Iβd initially intended to pop Mr Jagoβs βMental Travellerβ there when I get it framed but actually think these work better there and complement the WM better too. Apart from a couple more additions to the βsnugβ/man cave on this floor (pictured at the end of the hallway), thatβs floor 1 of 3 (new build town house, not intentionally trying to kid on that I live in some sort of palace) pretty much sorted I think.Β

Jameson Robinson π¬π§ Print Release β’ Show News β’ For Sale, by mrizzle on Apr 11, 2021 18:06:39 GMT 1, Thereβs a little story behind that. Jameson posted it torn on his Instagram stories marked βF/Upβ due to a mistake in hand finishing. Iβd commented my amusement at the marking and he very generously offered to send it to me. Iβve subsequently heard from the owner of the rat half which was also very kindly gifted by Jameson to her (as a birthday gift and is marked βH/Bβ) so two halves of the whole are being equally cherished by their respective owners.
I have to also mention Lorenzo at Waluso Gallery who very kindly provided me with a third matching frame (at no cost too I have to add!!) so that all three would be matching. Canβt recommend Waluso enough to anyone. Lorenzoβs passion for art is remarkable but heβs also just a really funny, kind and thoughtful chap.
