Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by Lroy on Nov 29, 2020 14:08:59 GMT 1, Lol ! It’s a patchwork of fakes ! I laughed when I saw Artsy or Catawiki ( same shit anyway ) where on one petrol Bomb, they make a mix of blue and brown darker background ones ! The one on Drouot is epic too ! Why Tateward leaves this brown one on line anyway ? Anyway it’s not funny ! Thanks for this great rock roll circus ! Well, maybe they ignore laws about fake art... what’s about the press and newspapers ? Maybe too, PC - I know that they have a lot of work to do - will authenticate posters now ( not anymore prints anyway ) : it’s not anymore leisure’s and souvenirs it’s 2,3, 6 k art ! And it will grow up for the real original ones ... Think Steve perkins is the bollocks , he should become a hero of this forum, he’s a great wheeler dealer and he wouldn’t have been a big enough fool to have bought a fake petrol bomb for thousands, let’s take our hats off to him for entertaining this forum for the last month while there’s been a load of idiots wasting there money on fake shit .🤣 Think those that have bought them should get on with it now. Who knows they could become worth more money in the future coz it was banksys mum printing the fakes😂😂
Hi lab ! You are laughing a lot ! Take care of apoplexy ! It could arrive if you eat chips at the same time ! Great ! On this grey Sunday, day of the Lord, I just wanted to tell you that the buyers on this forum - why are here if you don’t like members ? - are only few 0,5% ! Most buyers are common people, from the streets, from the real life. Workers, just married, single mums or dads, kids, etc etc

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by crabby on Nov 29, 2020 14:29:52 GMT 1, The threat of suing for defamation is not helpful for anyone. Nor is others calling Nick names but it's understandable that people are angry.
I am certain there are people who are afraid to come forward in case Nick/Tate Ward bring legal action against them.
*IF* the have been selling fakes unknowingly, typically in this kind of scenario a company with the utmost of integrity will move heaven and earth to make things right. Instead all we have seen so far is Nick trying to deflect the error of his ways onto the person who revealed it. Jamie is simply trying to ensure others don't have the same happen to them.
There is clearly more to this than just one poster sold to Jamie.
We can see how many Tate Ward have sold publicly. How many have they sold outside of the official auctions? Either through contacting losing bidders or people who anyone who has shown interest in the past? Were the pictures used in the sales the actual items being auctioned or were they old/stock? Perhaps it's possible that some real versions were in there.
Nick/lobster has personally been selling from 2017. How many via this forum? How many have been sold through galleries and Pal Art? Why on earth would he sell through Pal Art??
If they truly want to make things right, Nick should request the mods to mark his lobster account as a Gallery if Auction House isn't available, and he should add that he represents Tate Ward in his profile/signature.
Tate Ward should also publicly state that they will no longer sell these Petrol Bomb posters as a first step. The next step is remediation to investigate whether they have indeed sold fakes and then contact everyone to offer refunds.
I'd also like to think that they would refund those who bought in years gone by for the current value, or replacement value. Otherwise there is only one loser in that scenario, and it's not Nick/Tate Ward.
There are a lot of people who bought from Nick and Tate Ward in good faith, then framed them and have them hanging on their walls.
What a shame.

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by Rubberneck on Nov 29, 2020 14:34:14 GMT 1, Interesting news story from last week...
'The law has to fall on someone': Seller of allegedly fake Frans Hals painting must pay Sotheby's $5.3m for cancelled sale, judge insists.
Co-vendor of the painting, Fairlight Art Ventures had appealed the ruling last year but court upheld the decision yesterday, finding in favour of the auction house.
The London Court of Appeal yesterday upheld the decision that the investment company Fairlight Art Ventures will have to repay Sotheby’s the remainder of the price of an allegedly forged portrait attributed to Frans Hals. The judgment came surprisingly early, less than two weeks after the appeal hearing, which was brought by Fairlight.
The portrait of an unknown man was bought by Fairlight and the London-based dealer Mark Weiss Gallery in Paris in 2010 for €3m from Giuliano Ruffini, who has since become the prime suspect of a French criminal investigation into a huge group of suspected fake Old Masters that have infiltrated the market in recent years. The painting was then sold to the Seattle collector Richard Hedreen, for $10.75m, by private treaty through Sotheby’s, which charged a 5% commission. Weiss and Fairlight each took an equal share of the benefit.
When a laboratory, Orion Analytical, determined the painting was “without any doubt a modern forgery“, Sotheby’s paid back the collector the full amount of the sale, before asking the two co-owners to refund their share. Both Fairlight and Weiss argued they were not committed to Sotheby’s decision to rescind the sale. However, in March 2019, just before the case first went to court, Weiss signed a settlement agreeing to pay Sotheby’s $4.2m.
In December 2019, Justice Robin Knowles ordered Fairlight to pay a net sum of $5.37m to Sotheby’s, plus interest and substantial legal fees (the total amount is not public). That judgment has now been confirmed by the court of appeal, which upheld Sotheby’s defence on all counts. The court considered that both Weiss and Fairlight were “committed as principals to the consignment of the property to Sotheby’s" and therefore liable to the contractual right to rescind the sale, if the work appeared to be a forgery.
The court also confirmed that there was, at the time of the sale, “no general accepted view of the authenticity" of a "newly discovered painting which had no proper provenance, had not been published and had never been in an exhibition". The judgment added, in Sotheby's favour, that “it can take time after the first discovery of a work to reach" a consensus among experts and scholars.
As one of the judges said of this costly procedure, the law has “to fall on someone“, as “obviously it did not fall on the forger“.
Well it will be interesting to find out who, if anyone, consigned these posters to Tate Ward.. will take a while to unravel as maybe some are twice through the auction house or came from one of the other connected sources mentioned. Easiest first step for me is just to stop doing business with the auction house until this is sorted out in a clear and concise manner.

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by tab1 on Nov 29, 2020 15:12:14 GMT 1, Also selling directly, privately over PM. That is the most damning as its direct. If I was a victim of this I would definitely be connecting to other people affected and working out legal action together. What concerns me is that this is not limited to just these posters. Other posters, save and delete and soupcans, should seriously be examined, then prints and other artists work. Seems to be a deliberate and well orchestrated scam.
I do not think The sellers know how serious the charges could be if bought from any buyers in America and they press for charges . mail and Wire fraud could end up with 20 years + for posters !

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by sbash on Nov 30, 2020 9:59:34 GMT 1, been contacted by nick/lobster about getting refunded for the other 1 that i was sold back in 2018, i’ll update here accordingly.... imo if everyone’s refunded whose bought a print from him, that should b the end of it.... Cant disagree with this.
However, I think they need to actively seek out ALL buyers and approach them with full compensation at current prices. They should also put a recall statement up on their website for full transparency.

Also- maybe contacting the galleries they have supplied too, which I imagine amounts to a fair few posters.

Mine has been settled by Nick. He called me and quickly came to an arrangement I was happy with.
At the time I bought, auction prices were more than I'd have been willing to pay, so I don't feel robbed of the chance to buy elsewhere. I thought I'd got a good deal on a piece I liked. Turned out it wasn't. You live and learn. I've used the money to buy an original I've been eyeing up for a while.
Reading through this thread, I think some should be careful about the accusations they make. Discussing things that have actually happened is one thing, but there are a lot of legally shaky statements on here, apparently based on hunches and extrapolation. I'm not going to make any assumptions about anyone else's purchase and certainly won't make any accusations I can't prove.
I think this whole thing could very well have a significant effect on the price of Petrol Bombs. Clearly fakes are very hard to spot. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say genuine ones are very hard to spot. I certainly wouldn't even consider buying again.

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by tab1 on Nov 30, 2020 12:57:06 GMT 1, All the people getting refunds are you ripping up the posters or returning them ?
If a public statement was made more people will be aware and would flush out all the fakes , prices will temporarily plummet but will return as Without fakes on the market or being able to spot there will be very few genuine posters around Need to get stik on the case

Legally shaky statements.......? Its pretty much an anonymous Forum. Its also a Forum where members have often been accused of having multiple accounts and threads where they're effectively talking to themselves..(this is a just as fraudulent as shill bidding) The only way for potentially slanderous statements to be rid of would be for the Admin/Owner/Moderators to be more actively involved (which is how is used to be 10/12 years ago) People say what they want on here all day long. All Silky seems to care about these days is what tut is for sale on ebay (including blatant fakes) See, I said it......... back in the day this post would be removed
been contacted by nick/lobster about getting refunded for the other 1 that i was sold back in 2018, i’ll update here accordingly.... imo if everyone’s refunded whose bought a print from him, that should b the end of it.... Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by tab1 on Nov 30, 2020 19:19:01 GMT 1,
Just shows how much the forum helps collectors out by informing and highlighting these types of scams These scAms would go unnoticed even if buyers were refunded if not noted here , gives others the insight and to be cautious with these individuals in the future

Banksy Petrol bomb - fake vs genuine, by tab1 on Nov 30, 2020 19:32:12 GMT 1, If the the main seller here working with the auction house truly had no knowledge that these were fakes it would be in his Best interest to have a police investigation as he has sold numerous items he would be out of pocket substantially After refunding buyers and He could recoup his loses from his supplier Of the fakes And more importantly clear his part And name as of any wrongdoing which would show in the investigation as presently speculation and rumors will grow around the events as only snippets of information disclosed here and it will save any galleries or auction houses have their reputations ruined by being linked to the sales of these fakes . Perfecting timing for bbay😬

I said exactly the same to my friend the other night when we were discussing this thread....PCO sitting back watching thinking “thank you very much” this type of thing only helps Bbay moving forward. Some buyers will be more likely to pay their premiums knowing there is 100% no issue whatsoever....

I’m not sure I can see Bbay selling posters, mugs and stickers. I’m sure they have their work cut out authenticating numbered (and signed) editions....?!

It is a business interest , if people are willing to pay 3k for fire bomb , 6 k for monkey parliament and soupcans £1.5 k They could raise £240000 just alone for charging £60 for coas for just those 3 posters , throw in all the other authorised posters potentially over a million pounds in fees could be raised
Not sure but the new fees may be higher ? So greater amount may be raised and would clear all the crap from the market

How could you assign a coa to something that has no distinguishing marks? Unless they number/mark them as they go?
There’s easier ways for Banksy to make £240k if that’s the driver.
