Just had the catologue delivered for sothebys next sale on the 18th june - it has a micallef on the cover - anyway here is what they have with the estimates (pictures should be on sothebys website next week):

It too early to think about the dates... so most probably nothing is confirmed... but I am happy as I believe if the auction does well Dan will be put back in the limelight.... remember when Micallef had his first auction a couple of months ago, estimates were for 6-8k and auction went for 28k+premium! You know... sothebys always make low premium so that they can say that they've exceeded estimates x3, 5 times... just like they do with banksy and are doing with micallef....

Although I am sure that not everyone will agree with me, I am happy that finally Dan will be getting the recognition he deserved for his hard work throughout his carreer... If Sothebys are accepting him it means that they do give a certain value to his art....

The problem is that he is actually a real professional artist (that has years of studies) rather than a street graffiti artist, so may i suggest Silky to create a forum specifically for "other artists" that do not fall in the category as i wouldnt like to bother ppl with my comments.

Does anyone know anything about this Banksy Piece that sold in sothebys today? Its a huge piece on iron and I was told it took 6 men to move it as its that heavy

i was at the auction today, they all went for way too much, the think tank piece for £18, Weston Super Mare (no saw in the painting) was about 9k i think and riot cop was about £15k. all way overpriced. i bit up to £10 on a couple, but having seen the bottom fall out of the yba thing in the last year (hirst / emin / hume), i wasnt going to be aquiring for an investment.
there where some amazing pieces though, i purchased a couple of great pieces.
jenny saville and sarak lucas where the definate highlights.
damien hirsts not making reserve made me smile

Compared to the prices @ lazinc I think they were good prices. The think tank is an iconic image and can only go up in value in the long term.

i love all the mystery.... the 'other' forum saying they were a bargain, others say over priced. som say laz sells a teh right price, others say over priced......

personally i think today's sales were a steal compared to lazincs

did we see who bought the pieces today? was it christine or robbie? i may need to add further names to my next over priced ebay sale lol

Yeah I agree - I actually think these prices where a steal. To us Banksys have rocketed in price but his work is still in its infancy. And everytime I go into a bookshop you are guarenteed to see someone flicking through his book lol I dont think you will actually see the through worth for another 5 - 10 years.
