Just had a good friend give some background to this piece...
Dran has never had a good relationship with his father, and it’s father’s day today in France (like a lot of other countries). The child has got him a T-shirt with an anagram on the back - CISRAT is an anagram for RACIST!

In some ways, it could be seen as hopeful. The child is able to recognise the flaws of his father but perhaps I am overanalysing the image simply because I like the artist.

I have to say that the reason I initially got interested in this scene and this artist in particular, was because of the messages and more importantly the uncomfortable messages. Pretty wall friendly pictures have never really held my interest for long personally.
In this image, Dran has tackled quite a lot...you can strip away multiple layers here to reveal who the artist is - Someone who is true to himself.
Compare this to the ‘in-your-face‘ Raymond Pettibon racist superman, the execution of the message in this Dran is arguably more refined and wall friendly- but to my mind cuts deeper...as for a child to recognise racism in a father is quite a profound realisation. Young children usually idolise their fathers.
