Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by Momo on Jun 13, 2021 0:10:18 GMT 1, Somehow I have now got two copies of this...and they are a bit different. Number one I bought from a member here who sold it framed. I have just hung it and not unframed it. I have no reason to doubt his legitimacy, he was selling several various things at the time, including another Opie. He told me he bought it several years previously (in the same frame) from somebody whose place he went to that had a load of Opies on the walls. It is distinctly red. Number two I recently bought elsewhere from somebody at a very good price indeed, he was worried that it was damaged and had reduced the price a lot. The damage to the edges is very minimal and would easily be framed out. It is distinctly more orange, still red if viewed on its own, but side by side this one is orangy-red I'm giving it to my daughter as a new flat moving in gift. I can't help but wonder if one is legit and the other fake...but if so then which one?! (Both seem to have very deep black on the black bits) Any thoughts or advice?? the orange one may have just been exposed to UV over a period of time and lightly bleached??

Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by rungsp on Jun 13, 2021 20:43:33 GMT 1, I don't think it is UV damage...the guy who sold it said it had never been framed but the edges had got knocked when stored in a tube that was a bit too short. That certainly fits with the damage, negligible damage though it is.

Looks good. The Guardian reviewer didn't rate it much, so it'll probably be pretty decent.

Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by Javier on Jun 28, 2021 13:15:52 GMT 1, There is a new animal statuette set available to celebrate the new exhibition. Having seen in the flesh, the deer is impressive, the rest is OK. Made of a hard foam like material. Would have been nice if they had been metal. Much nicer is the set of three plates that are available from the museum shop - both online and offline. www.julianopie.com/shop/multiples/animal-statuettes
Nice statuettesβ¦ but 1.120Β£ for a 3D printing seems βa bitβ high to meβ¦

I see. Last summer I went to his exhibition in Lisbon (recommended by a good person in here, I didnβt know it was there) and I could buy a zipper postcard for about 50β¬ (Plus a book). It has been released for the Oslo exhibition, if I remember good, but still hadnβt sold out. Something beautiful, affordable and nice enough to be on the shelves of my living room. I think thatβs the kind of releases that should be in the exhibition gift shop

Not sure about the animals but a set of Melbourne statues hammered at Β£3000 plus 34%fees last week ( over Β£4K to buyer) so definitely prices are rising for Opie figures so canβt blame them for taking whatβs rightfully theirs.

Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by The Jokers Puppet on Jun 28, 2021 14:51:45 GMT 1, There is a Melbourne statuette set at Rosebery's auction (7 July) current price Β£700 for anyone looking for a set. Not sure if Rosebery is as well known as some auction houses but seem to be on the mailing list.
I don't have any pictures of the Opie exhibition as I don't tend to take them (bit like going on safari and being surrounded by people with lenses longer than their arms and not enjoying being in the moment. Always argue that one with the wife who often likes to compete with her Samsung phone). Its a pretty small exhibition so I would not suggest a special trip unless you wish to make an afternoon of it. Nice lunch at Soane's kitchen next door, view what was John Soane's country retreat (he was mates with JW Turner and a big art collector - recommend visiting Soanes Museum and the Hogarth collection if you have not done so) and the Opie exhibition which is essentially in 2 rooms.

Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by handy on Sept 18, 2021 15:12:45 GMT 1, Love some of Opie's work but for some reason i'm not a fan at all of the French Village series. Don't see anything that reminds me of a French village. The architecture is neither charming nor modern; it just reminds me of a badly rendered 3D environment from a computer game of the 1990s.
like the statue, thanks for sharing

Julian Opie π¬π§ Statuette β’ Pop Art Portrait β’ Lenticular , by John The Badgers on Sept 18, 2021 21:05:51 GMT 1, Always been a big fan of this Opie fella, and made the trip to the Nation's capital today to see the new Julian Opie exhibition at Cristea Roberts Gallery -
cristearoberts.com/exhibitions/230-julian-opie/
A great display of his more recent work, and also items previously available.
Would like to share some pictures -
There is also a series of wood cut prints which are available which support the exhibition. These are really quite something, I was aware of them via the Cristea Roberts newsletter, but would certainly recommend them, they are really lovely -
Mr Opie was in attendance which was nice to see, actually had a really nice chat with him, a really nice fella. He actually took the Mickey out of my prehistoric camera, so apologies for the quality of them above.
Would certainly recommend a visit.
