Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Oct 8, 2024 15:02:55 GMT 1, Went to a few previews at Sotheby’s and Christie’s this week and was reminded how wonderful some of the auction catalogues can be. I kept a few over the years - they are a not only a good source to learn about art and artists , there are also a nice reminder what a massive elitist bubble the art market is. Anyway, here one of my favourites. Post war and Contemporary Evening Sale Christie’s New York, November 2012 A heavy thing, 380 pages long and filled with 60+ lots of the most amazing art. This is catalogue version with the Warhol 3D cover of the main lot “Statue of Liberty” How do you do to get some ? You are going there or you are ordering them on their site. As you said, they ts wonderful! A mix - I have previously worked for a NY based company and went there several times a year and it luckily always collided with auctions season so I went to the previews. Otherwise the most amazing book store ever - Strand Books - has a massive amount of these on sale ( from the 60’s / 70’s up to recent stuff ) And as always: ebay is your friend. The main auction ones ( May and November) in 2011 and 2012 are particularly great. Here two more: Sotheby’s November 2012 and Christie’s May 2012

Recommended Art Books, by Onket on Oct 13, 2024 10:06:32 GMT 1, I ordered mine from my local Waterstones and they are now saying it's 'unavailable from publisher' or similar. Might give them another week. I know Waterstones aren't exactly a small family business, but it's a shame if giants like Amazon are shutting out other options.

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Oct 25, 2024 13:00:51 GMT 1, A bit of book porn Friday.
Went to Abu Dhabi for work a few years back and sneaked in a visit to this amazing exhibition:
R S T W from the private collection of Larry Gagosian Pretty impressive selection from Rauschenberg, Ruscha, Serra, Twombly, Warhol and Wool.
Went to Hatchards today - there is quite a selection of signed Michael Craig-Martin books, guess around 9 or 10 different ones. If signed books are your thing you can knock yourself out.
There were also a few signed copies of the great “All that glitters” by Orlando Whitfield left. The book was mentioned here a few times and is really worth reading.
Happy weekend everyone.

Appreciate the post kfroms.
I was only looking for a signed edition of the Orlando Whitfield book the other day without much success.
Just tried the Hatchard's website, and cant see them on line? Would you have a link to them?
Failing that, if anyone visiting Hatchard's, and can pick one up for me, would be really appreciated.
Will of course cover any costs etc.

There were at least 3 or 4 left on Friday. I am away most of next week and hence won’t be in town

Should be good! Yes near Le Louvre/Palais Royal. I will regret the place and the park ( I lived close to it before ) The book is not expensive at all. They will ship overseas but not at the moment. Only for France. Maybe better to wait. And in all good bookstores too . long times ago they were after Meudo. La Forêt in a gigantic park , with Moore statues everywhere. Yes it’s a very classy museum. i heard that it will be Novel ( not sure ) that will build the new one. tx

...John The Badgers have you looked in the airing cupboard?

Will ask my wife regarding the slippers, John. She always knows where mine are so I sure she also knows where yours are.
Happy weekend.
