Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Dec 28, 2022 15:56:05 GMT 1, My rather wonderful wife gave me a ticket for the great talk of Dylan Jones, Tracey Emin and Rankin back in November - on top of it I got the book which I finally managed to read, thanks to long and slow swedish winter days.
Dylan Jones - Faster than a Cannonball. 1995 and All that
As the title stipulates, the book focusses on 1995, switching between Music ( birth of Britpop ) and Art ( YBA etc ) Its a fantastic read, mainly due to immense line up of contributors. For the arts bit its is virtually every key person from back in the days, on the artist side the biggest voices come from Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Michael Craig Martin. Music is covered by all of the Britpop heroes incl the Gallagher brothers, Brett Anderson, Alex James etc
If you are a kid of the 90s, this is a wonderful trip down memory lane. Read it.
Here - 50% off at Waterstones:

Recommended Art Books, by puritog on Dec 28, 2022 17:34:48 GMT 1, Barry Mcgee released the book Reproduction some months ago. There are some links here aperture.org/books/barry-mcgee-reproduction-stamped-edition/ to 5 bookstores around the world (Tokyo, LA, Paris, SF, NY) with each one of them having a different stamped edition limited to 200 units. There are cheaper options to buy the normal edition (e.g. Amazon), but I liked the idea of the special edition.

Recommended Art Books, by mojo on Dec 28, 2022 19:46:15 GMT 1, I read The Lonely City by Olivia Laing during lockdown, really interesting study of how artists stay inspired and cope with often working alone, highly recommended. I've just started BOOM by Michael Shnayerson about the business of the contemporary art market, to be honest I'm struggling to get into it, one of the recommendations says 'think of it as a 400 page Vanity Fair article' which doesn't help. However I'm sure plenty of art buyers/sellers on here might like it.

Recommended Art Books, by kjg on Dec 30, 2022 23:12:51 GMT 1, I just received this belated Christmas present. ‘Freedom of Expression under Surveillance’, Foam Magazine issue 43, published in December 2015. This issue was made in close collaboration with Ai Weiwei. 288 pages, Swiss bound. One of the very few copies that were signed by the master himself :-)

Recommended Art Books, by mcgill14 on Jan 3, 2023 23:28:01 GMT 1, I know it's not art for the wall but I'm also a massive fan of vintage Robots. I received this incredible book for Xmas and as well as featuring stacks of amazing Robots it also includes 54 QR codes that when scanned let you see certain Robots actually working. It certainly made me happy.

Recommended Art Books, by Street Arted 2020 on Jan 4, 2023 5:51:03 GMT 1, For the sticker heads…
Street Character Chronicles Volume 2 was created with the intention of cramming an entire gallery into a single book. With over 50 participating artists, from Jonjonlives to the Trash Bandit, the show was hosted at VISUAL gallery+design, and ran for 3 weeks. All profits from the sold pieces were donated to Artists for Humanity, and the rest were placed into an artist wide trade. Each participating artist received a different piece from the one they submitted, and those whose pieces sold received a limited edition poster from the Street Character Chronicles! The on-going series aims to document the street character side of the graffiti scene, and those that are breaking the rules of graffiti.

Read an article about AI creating indredible artworks ( not for me )

Recommended Art Books, by Lroy on Jan 10, 2023 15:40:18 GMT 1, We have lost yesterday one of My preferred author ( whatever the country ) , Russel Banks : he was amongst my three "B " : Bukowski, Banks, and Bunker ( Ed., ex prisoner, that played with Tarentino too ) . All the three ones dies from cancer. ( I like Bone from Chesbro too )...
Everyone should read almost one Russel Banks : I loved The Sweet Hereafter ( because of the construction of the novel ) that have been le Grand prix du Jury at le Festival de Cannes under the direction of Atom Egoyan... I liked too Affliction, etc.. most f all of his novels got this humanity, this humility that we can only found in great novelists. I don't know if a lot known him one here, but yes I will miss him...
Maybe this is not about an art book, But I would shared this very sad news...

They’ve posted saying there has been a batch of misprints and they are getting re printed. could this be what you’ve experienced?
