hi guys, I'm opening this thread as I'd like to read a bit of opinions from the forum's member on the street artist Okuda San Miguel. 

I personally like him, he is doing a lot of cool street art pieces around the world, and I think he has a great talent - the details of the colours are impressive. Plus I quite like the topics and subjects he paints.  

My struggle is a bit the pricepoint of his originals, while the releases (despite are not many) remains quite affordable.

But while this is just my 2 cent, I was wondering why doesn't have particulary hype here in the forum?
Is anyone collecting him? 
There is anything is worth to know about him?

Fantastic artist imo, but i do not like how he is managed by this spanish gallerist/agent chick that asks for high/unrealistic terms from any gallery he shows with, making it difficult for them to sell many works or work realistic prices with interested buyers, which then makes it difficult for galleries to want to keep doing more shows / releases with him and limit the expansion of his collector base.

Sometimes the success of an artist is limited by their managers who try to make their artist VIP but end up alienating too many...

Quite interesting story. From the description of the managment sounds a bit like Pejac, great artist which the potential seems "limited" by the managment.

He had an awesome show at Stolenspace a couple of years back, where i spoke to him a bit, seems like a nice chap. And he had a really good installation at last years Moniker.

Also, he has a fairly affordable piece by his standards (i think) at jealous at the moment, not sure if it sold or not but i think it was about £3k.

Also - his piece in the 13th is possibly the largest painting ive ever seen anywhere. Ridiculous big, but its worth seeing it if you can.

don't want to derail the topic from Okuda's prices, but just as background about him. back in the 90s he was featured all the time in the Spanish graffiti magazines. I remember him as one of the most original/skilful painters.

We invited OKUDA back in 2016 to paint a mural and some other projects , here in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
He is an amazing artist and wonderful person to work with.
Almost all of his pieces sold out pretty quickly at the gallery.

I am quite intrigued by him, as mentioned I like quite a lot the whole storytelling around his art and he looks quite of a character - as also a few you confirmed.

Atm I'm kind of struggling with a question: is he an artist that is worth to be collected in depth?
Where I am atm is a bit of a wired point, because while, as I said, I like his art, on the other side his pieces are extremely colourful, and I would struggle to see a wall full of his art - if not under acid 

But then from another POV he is in a interesting point of his career and he's probably gaining some traction from media.
But he is also being collected?

Anyone from the forum that collect him "in depth"? How your wall looks like?

The management quote from sfnyc is spot on. I'm still trying to recover financially from her micro managing from 2018. I won't publically post any stories though from that debacle...

I heard from an artist friend who's also on the international mural circuit that one of the management said "we're trying to create an art world monster. Go as big as possible while his market is still hot".

That pricing goes right along with that plan. Sell as much as possible before the bottom drops out.

I love okuda but..It seems that they want to raise their prices in the market in a controlled way, they are not seen much in auctions and it is easy to find prints but at scandalous prices. It doesn't seem to flow naturally

First time I came across his work was at a Jose Andres restaurant in Los Angeles. The pieces looked great in the setting, and only bit of color in the place (aside from the food). Side note, restaurant is also phenomenal.
