new to buying art, prints etc etc, by carlito on Apr 13, 2007 14:13:45 GMT 1, just started out and would love to buy a couple of decent prints (signed) but the prices are just mental!
like all the usuals banksy, micallef, hewlett (bring back Hooligan's Haircut! - that shows my age!), d*face and a bit of baldwin
any tips on how to go about getting something worth keeping that won't seriously kill my credit card? any up and coming artists you can recommend? Decent sites to keep an eye on? etc etc
cheers

new to buying art, prints etc etc, by dmandpenfold on Apr 13, 2007 14:22:28 GMT 1, welcome carlito
There's the following thread to read through which has a lot of input from forum members on affordable art under 50GBP
banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1175270939
Also more well know (but not mentioned in your post) are Eelus and Nick Walker, both who have reasonably priced prints and depending on your bedget canvas' too.
Eelus is releasing a print at the end of the month, Nick is currently running a show in Bristol and also has some work currently available on his site.

I am sure there is whole thread dedicated to this question somewhere .. quite philosophical one too .. but don't expect any reasonable answers ;D

I'd check out the £50 thread from the 1st page, lots of stuff there.
All the artists names you've mentioned have already made it big so their prices are high, look around the £50 thread site and buy what you like. You say you're going to keep it rather than sell so investment shouldn't matter, and anyway only cost £50 or less, look at this for only £26 for two!!

and keep an eye on
www.souledoutstudios.com/
If you want advice on finding an up and coming artist who you can buy originals from now cheaply and that will be worth lots in the future, well that's a different story, we'd all be rich if we could see into the future.
Why not check out art degree shows in your area? lot's of new talent.
Bottom line, BUY WHAT YOU LIKE.

new to buying art, prints etc etc, by stuey09 on Apr 13, 2007 16:31:50 GMT 1, Hi Carlito. I'd also add to CBL's advice of buying only what you like; Also stick to what you can afford and bear in mind the cost of framing. I know this piece of advice off by heart, because it gets fed into my earhole everytime I log on or go near a gallery

new to buying art, prints etc etc, by Daniel Silk on Apr 13, 2007 16:41:12 GMT 1, Good advice being given out Well done lads ;D Yeah, the most important thing is to buy what you really like ;D You really dont need to spend hundreds on prints coz if you have a good look about you can find stuff for every budget. Also its a good idea to have a few hundred kept aside for when a print comes out of the blue, and you need the money fast before it sells out thats how I normally get caught out
