POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by HowAboutNo on Nov 28, 2006 18:21:21 GMT 1, How's this for an idea? A worldwide graffiti campaign giving cryptic clues on how to obtain one of the new Banksys. Solve the puzzle and you gain the option to buy a print. Completely unworkable, but it would be fun and would favour genuine fans!
The Dragon bar actually do a thing every year, and I beleive its sponsored/stocked by POW....called finders keepers I beleive, like a mini treasure hunt. But never seen it confirmed anywhere, as always I am sure I read it on here/Ebay forum.

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by stingray on Nov 28, 2006 18:23:07 GMT 1, OK - this suggestion may not be popular but here goes....
Why doesn't POW release 5000 prints instead of the 750 they are planning on releasing?
Through the wonders of supply and demand this would reduce their market value to the value that POWs are selling them therefore making buying them for a quick buck completely pointless. It would mean that their would be enough prints to satisfy demand and because it is still a limited print run the prints would hold their value and rise in value in time.
I accept that it would make each individual print less special but to be honest it's not like they are unique at the moment. If you are a genuine Banksy fan then you will be happy to get a high quality print to put up in your house.
It shouldn't be about the value of the print it should be about the image.
It is not ideal, I know but it seems the best way to satisfy the most people and at the same time stop people buying them for profit.
Am I crazy?

That is crazy. The whole point in a numbered print is that they are limited and precious. What you are saying is print posters not prints. Edtitions of 750 etc is already a massive numbered run compared to most.

Well it seems to me that we can't have it both ways. We can't have a small signed/numbered print run and have them at an artificially low price.
Although POWs keeping the price low is admirable as it gives more access to those who aren't able to afford the more expensive prints the reality is that the system is being exploited by those who seek to make money.
Who wins there?

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by corblimeylimey on Nov 28, 2006 18:42:13 GMT 1, It seems like a good idea, but it would be a hell of a job to print that many by silkscreen, it would have to be lithographic, which would spoil the quality.

Surely the added work/equipment required could easily be absorbed in the increased revenue of selling so many prints. After all 5000 x £200 = £1,000,000
In fact... Banksy, if you are reading this get in touch. I have a business proposition for you... ;D

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by Curley on Nov 28, 2006 19:14:53 GMT 1, Whats limited about 5000 ??
Why not just print posters like the unlimited soup cans or the pop editions like Cauty and Jamie Read and then still have the Limited Editions and increase the price.
Then there is some thing for everybudget and everyone

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by lesroy on Nov 28, 2006 20:10:29 GMT 1, I would like to simply setup a shop... form a line, only ONE print (not one of each) stand in a queue and buy one, then you have to wait in another line till they have all sold out. When they have all gone everyone goes away.
That way you have to queue all day for the print you really want and no-one can don a disguise and come back later.
It'll be a tough day but if they are already tubed up in batches then its simply a case of boshing them out like football tickets. Those fans that want the best tickeks get there early.
POW could get say 10 staff in for that day and BOSH!

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by paradoxia on Nov 30, 2006 12:14:14 GMT 1, Othersites I know who sell limited products have a fastordering system with minimal serving pages for reduced server load - the whole website is taken down and redirected to this simple one pages ordering system, there are no fancy pictures, no fancy animations, no fancy coding. just a straightforward ordering system - the basket is prepopulated with the item and postage (you can only order 1) and you head straight to checkout and the load is picked up by the secure server (https) for payment.
or Virtual queue has to be the way to go... you go on and if there is a print available it is quickly reserved you get a reservation number and you leave the site ... then once the fuss has died down you have 24 - 48 hours (over weekend?) to make full payment otherwise the queue place expires and it goes back into the open market... again a few measures will need to be in place to make sure people don't make multiple reservations/purchases.
