Harland Miller • ACE, by Love Is In The Air on Apr 3, 2020 8:47:57 GMT 1, There is a reason why you can still buy them from source. Yeah it's called tiered pricing IMHO. Manifold quality is second to none, but once their Harland Millers prints have sold 20 or 30 of the edition they are normally much cheaper to buy on secondary market than source. Jumps are couple of grand each time which is lot of money to a lot of buyers.
Other point made is totally valid too, people still prefer Penguins and so atm you can still get some of them for below the price of this Ace print, which is much more of a 'marmite' image.
Don't want to derail any possible sales for Tommy though, so will add that colours on small version are very vibrant in the flesh and these pics don't do it justice. Good luck with the sale...

Harland Miller • ACE, by tlaa2020 on Jul 27, 2020 9:08:02 GMT 1, When you see an artist's print market pricing going strong, but their originals market not much further ahead (from purely a pricing perspective) - good sign or bad?
E.g. David Shrigley / Connor Brothers etc - originals are available at not much more than the edition prices. Harland Miller is a bit further ahead but still along way from the huge 'originals vs prints' price price gap you see in Hirst / Bridget Riley / Warhol etc etc.
I guess to put it another way, what examples are there of artists who have started out being more successful in the print market and then gone on to become 'blue chip' in the originals artworld? By Blue chip I'm talking £million plus, evening art sales at the leading auction houses etc.

His best auction result to date is the George Michael piece but that doesn’t really count as it was a charity auction and was owned by George Michael. A huge Penguin classic canvas just sold in Sotheby’s Paris for 60k euros. With an estimate of 50-70k. Canvas before that $100k. For a so called big artist these are not big results.

Harland Miller • ACE, by teabaggins on Jul 27, 2020 13:36:03 GMT 1, It’s true his results have been/ are spotty. It all comes down to the quality of the work and of course the title. Good titles don’t come up often. They are being held on to or being sold privately. When they do come up publicly they do well. He’s just not at the stage where people just buy him blindly.
The piece referenced above “Today you get some Ass” that just sold for £60k was from 2004 and just overall not a great work. (Weak title. No “Harland Miller” painted on. And is unsigned). It was really the title of the show itself, “ Dear son, this is one of the last of my few remaining pre-marital possesions - look after it won't you, Love, Dad“, that gave the piece context.,
The last decent title “Incurable Romantic” sold in March for $194k which isn’t too shabby.

Harland Miller • ACE, by tlaa2020 on Jul 27, 2020 14:49:59 GMT 1, This simply isn't true.
Harland miller's record auction price is what like £100k (if that actually), vs his prints which are currently trading at up to £20k (more or less). so its a pretty close spread.
Compare that with what I would consider 'blue chip' eg:-
Bridget riley (auction sales regularly well over £1M+, vs prints can be currently bought for £3k upwards).
Damien Hirst (auction sales regularly well over £1M+, vs prints can be currently bought for £5k upwards).
Tracey Emin - as above
Warhol - as above.
Banksy - as above.
you get my point.
so my question is - when you see these artists (harland miller, connor brothers, david shrigley etc) basically making more (/most) sales from prints vs originals, is this a sign of a future art market star, or a sign of just the latest fad / something to steer well clear of?
