Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Reader on Nov 20, 2022 20:47:27 GMT 1, But Pest Control pretty much is a shop, it’s a business just look at their accounts. The fact is there are a lot of very unhappy customers who are at the point of no longer wanting to deal with them, and as a result are massively turned off of the artist. Anyone who doesn’t see this as massive problem needs someone to mansplain it better. What do you mean by "pretty much a shop" ? they're a registered production and arts based facility reg 90040 - Operation of arts facilities. They have 4.6million in assets.
" The fact is there are a lot of very unhappy customers who are at the point of no longer wanting to deal with them"
Who, and what are they upset about? not getting COA's in time to flip works? what do you regard as the "massive problem"? he has 11.3 million instgram followers and global coverage numbering in the hundreds of millions for his latest works. I'm curious what you and seemingly a few others on here think isn't functioning?

It also is the only place go for primary works, and seems to want to heavily control the secondary market which in principe is fine if it functioned properly. When people invest their hard earned money into genuine Banksy works and then have to wait years for change of ownerships, COAs and authentication requests clearly it’s not on, it’s the collectors who make Banksy, and Pest Control possible, and to treat them with such little respect is simply not sustainable. Eventually the market will move on or collectors will start litigating, either way it will end in tears. I know you’ve probably got some sort of vested interest defending this type of practice but I know very few Banksy collectors who have anything good to say about Pest Control privately.

I'm curious what you and seemingly a few others on here think isn't functioning? There's Banksy the artist and there's Banksy the business model, they're separate. The artist is doing just fine, nothing to comment on that. 11 mill followers etc he's obv doing that end of things very right, however, just because the artist is doing fantastic doesn't mean Banksy the business is, it's clearly not. I could go deep but that's just the way it is and if anyone wants to read over my posts there's plenty of examples as to why. The business doing well creates opportunities for the artist to buy rescue boats etc etc etc. That doesn't happen or least it would be a watered down version if it did, if the business doesnt function properly. In the real world if investors(which the vast majority of buyers are now, at some level) are feeling the artist/market isnt being carefully managed theyll go elsewhere, there's any amount of art to invest in, they can still enjoy Banksy the artist without risk. It makes no difference how good the artist is to the business, if the business is a shambles. The only reason PC hasn't been removed is because of the respect people have for the artist, any other company wouldn't have survived. The staff of the business could benefit from help/guidance/support. That's all.

Not the Collectors, these days most of whom only seek easy money and a free ride to financially profit from his work. If his market goes down that would be great for people less financially well off who would genuinely enjoy displaying one of his artworks in their home and not having it sit about in some Swiss storage facility gathering dust whislt they bitch about not getting a COA in time because they want to sell it on for profit. Not even sure why I’m responding to this. Must be nice living in your little Utopia, shocks me how detached from reality some people on this board are

I'm afraid this is wrong artist to be expecting to service the Stock X art bro market. Nothing's changed, they've always been semi incompetent with the "art market", kinda the point really.

PC are in the business of facilitating Banksy's ideas and projects, the art/prints/objects is and always has been secondary to this. A side hustle if you like. He's even on record saying he doesn't regard prints and editioned canvases as "art", but as mementos of the street work, memorabilia if you like, souvenir keychains and snow globes. Ten's of millions of people are happy with this. The only people not, are a few unhappy souls who aren't directly benefitting from it. No one cares if a Rothko dealer or collector is unhappy with the "business model". I understand the frustrations, but I think we perhaps overestimate our importance in the whole phenomenon.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Daniel Silk on Nov 21, 2022 0:26:35 GMT 1, I wonder what people's views are in Steve Lazarides? If Steve was still involved now, would things be different? I wonder if he might have steered Banksy in a different direction. Of course it can be said some of the problems date back to his times, but that doesn't mean given more time he wouldn't have dealt with them.

Yes that’s part of the carefully crafted public image put together by a rather savvy PR team, and I may be convinced if pest control didn’t pursue arr so rapaciously, didn’t bring various intellectual property claims and didn’t sell millions of pounds of works to “VIPs”. It’s beautifully ironic and I must admit amazing marketing to have convinced the general public and many (albeit slightly naive) collectors that Banksy is anti capitalist whilst he grubs away millions of pounds. I hold nothing against him or anyone associated with him for that it just tickles me that people don’t see through it. And my views on PC have less to do with consumerism than what I consider to be basic respect, manners and common decency.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by House of Arts on Nov 21, 2022 4:33:30 GMT 1, Andy, you are trying to argue with far left people over something that, due to you owning a business, makes you take the capitalist side of the argument, which in their eyes is BAD in big fat capital letters. I'd advice you to stay away from such a discussion, it will only make you more angry.
There's a conversation to be had here, but you are trying to have a conversation with some people that have zero knowledge of the situation and use the word 'mansplaining' unironically. You are not going to change their minds, you running a business and making a profit reselling work from an artist makes you a dirty capitalist in their eyes that should just keep his mouth shut and let the brave people at PC do their glorious work while you rake in all your dirty profit.
To everyone, if someone as reputable as Andy, that has years and years of experience in this strange world of art and dealing with PC, speaks up about something, perhaps it would be wise to listen what he has to say instead of brainlessly defend something you don't know much about.

As to your question re Laz, I think lookign at where they're both at now, kinda answers who was carrying who no ? The problems are people buying stuff and not getting COA's (or even a simple response) for years, is it really that hard to understand?
Banksy is a business making millions and millions selling VIP stuff and primary off the market prints to very wealthy people, and thousands of GDP items that cost fck all to make and got sold for insanely high prices to his costumers. And then people on here are trying to argue Banksy is just an idealist artist trying to stencil some stuff in Ukraine. It's insane.
As the former is true, the latter is obviously bullshit. And if the latter were in fact true, he shouldn't have done his massive GDP sale nor should he be selling canvasses to Hollywood-stars for milllions.
How is it so hard for people to admit that at the same time, Banksy the artist can inherently be a great person/group of people, Banksy the PR team is phenomenal in crafting a public image of said artist which makes him a fkload of money from very wealthy people, and Banksy the business is utterly shit in providing any service to the 'normal person in the street' that wants to own something genuinely Banksy, the very type of person his PR team makes him seem to care so much about?
I wonder what people's views are in Steve Lazarides? If Steve was still involved now, would things be different? I wonder if he might have steered Banksy in a different direction. Of course it can be said some of the problems date back to his times, but that doesn't mean given more time he wouldn't have dealt with them. what problems, will someone please say what the problems are, because I haven't read anything yet that outlines exactly what the problems are. Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2022 6:44:47 GMT 1, Andy, you are trying to argue with far left people over something that, due to you owning a business, makes you take the capitalist side of the argument, which in their eyes is BAD in big fat capital letters. This is effectively the Banksy forum, I thought a lot before posting here. This is where the most support//defense would likely come for PC. It's very telling to me that there's hardly any backlash towards a small time art dealer from N.Ireland speaking very vocally and somewhat harshly towards PC, if PC wasnt upsetting a lot of people I would have been destroyed on here, that hasn't happened. There's Reader who has a set mindset on it, blinkers out, a defensiveness I expect but if I was out of line I would be publicly flogged Supporting the artist is great but they're not helping the artist at all. He has a world of shit coming his way. Do they know how many lawsuits are filed? It's only started, it will get much worse. It's likely PC won't survive at this rate, there's only so many lawsuits they can survive. I wanrt them to survive and thrive, to do that they need to understand the truth, they're clueless of it, it suits certain current staff to be. I blocked this shenanigans out for a long time, re panic/pc, buried my head, ignored he increasing concern. It doesn't make the slightest difference to me personally if PC fold so why put my head on the chopping block, because I care. This is a money game, ugly but true, the artist might not like it but he knows it, hence why PC offer art for sale at 1mill plus. There's a real chance my support will disappear and everything I've worked for will be gone if PC sort themselves out, I'm ok with that. The worst possible thing a Banksy dealer could do to is reach out vocally on a public platform against anything Banksy related, he has some of the most passionate fans who are very supportive and vocal, 11mill, where is the volume of support for PC, it doesn't exist. It's a business and all the PC backslaps won't save them, only change will. I've already told PC I won't have anything to do with them Inc them reaching out re past sales and Coas until there's change. I've been approached multiple times to be involved in group lawsuits, those asking u understand my involvement could have a real impact considering what I know which is a lot, too much probably. If I'm getting leaked info about where the artist lives to where I could likely knock his front door within a week, and that info is leaked from one of the current directors , then the artist should be concerned. I've been approached by newspapers etc etc and been offered money for information. That will never happen, only because of the artist/clients, if it was PC only I wouldn't lift my foot off their neck. I'm letting the breath to give the opportunity to make important changes. I'm a small time nobody so easy to ignore, for now. As mentioned, it stops as soon as I'm aware the artist has read this thread. As long as he has all the info I'll go with whatever direction it goes, it's his empireim just a lowly servant, I've always known my place .

I am no longer in the game as much these days but you know me and I know that you have sold fakes over the years and I suspect thats why the aforementioned no longer have any respect for you nor want to work with you any more. Thought I should keep this on record. That was a mistake by you, very dangerous. You obviously don't know me at all. Speak soonFyi I have zero interest in working with or being associated with the current PC as it stands. I would be going backwards.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by High Contrast on Nov 21, 2022 8:33:14 GMT 1, Crazy how this get so out of hand so quick on here.
I’ve bought Banksy prints, canvases , you name it over the years and who do I always go to for impartial advice, Andy @ Castle.
I bought my first print, GWB from him years ago - he is one of, if not the most trusted name in the Banksy market.
————————
As to the state of the Banksy market, a lot of people have lost a lot of money, primarily investors but some on the lower end who piled their life savings into a print at the highs.
As I was early(ish) to the game , money isn’t much of a bother in my art collecting, as I’ll always be *up* , but making some money along the way definitely helps though. If you say it doesn’t, you’re lying.
Saying that, am I still annoyed at the time it takes to get a COA, yes. Am I still annoyed at lack of communication , yes. Am I annoyed that I don’t get works primary as I’ve sold in the past , yes.
It is what it is, will they sort it out I don’t know. Will it impact prices short term, 100%. Will it be bad for the market in the long run, probably not.

Will it be bad for the market in the long run, probably not. And this is the thing, imagine that you bought those prints at 50 quid or 1000 or 10000 and eventually 20k plus. And over time you realised there was a good profit in selling them on. That you already had a client list and then built an even broader base and knowledge, so you hitch your wagon to it as Andy and quite a few other gallerists did. The problem is, over the last couple of years, they sold these on with HUGE inflated premiums with a promise to their clients that the "market" was sound and their "investment" safe and they had good relations with PC etc. So you drop your gallery and all the other worthy artists and projects with all the attendent overheads, and set up a new limited company focussing exclusively on Banksy. No complaints. But then, just a year or two in, things start to change. PC has to close due to the pandemic, prices start to stagnate, there's no growth, apart from the very high end. You find out collectively that stock is drying up. Then secondary market prices start to tank. Your clients are stressing you, asking why the 100k print you sold them is now listed at 80, 70, 50 etc. The only recourse you have, is to blame the artist, but everyone loves the artist, besides, he didnt sell it to you. Then it must be PC incompetence. But PC have never vastly inflated their primary prices, and if you bought primary, then you're either very wealthy and don't care, or close to them, and they're sold with the expectation that they wont hit the market again anytime soon. Either way, primary clients are more than happy. It's tough times, but PC don't "owe" anyone anything. They've set up a system where to protect buyers and sellers, you can submit to major auction houses, meaning on the authentication and COA side, PC only have to deal with this manageable and very, very professional small group of people and not literally thousands of secondary market dealers and collectors who are submitting Gonefellow prints looking for a Banksy COA and becoming irate when they dont get an immediate response or any response at all. Sorry If your business is struggling or that COA is taking for ever, but you gotta take the rough times with the smooth and perhaps lower your expectations of a small team whose focus is on creating art projects and events. It's a charming messy set up, much like it always has been with PoW, the idea that it's a massive corporate PR industry business with the same values as those secondary market dealers or should be run like a call center, is just nonsense.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Deleted on Nov 21, 2022 9:39:13 GMT 1, Setting the money part of it to the side. I edited my last post and there's an important point that shouldn't get lost.
I have enough information to knock the artists front door within a week if I was inclined, I'm not. Someone in a closer demographic could do the same if they had the same information, in an afternoon.
It's no coincidence that the new website went live in conjunction with the end of the artists long period of time out(re street activity etc). The website was due to go live in conjunction with the show but as it was stalled going live alongside the Ukrainian stint made sense.
All leaked info was leaked by one of the current directors, the other director is extremely tight lipped.
How do Banksy fans feel about an art dealer knowing info like this. I always had some level of insider info but certain things were never discussed and for good reason.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Reader on Nov 21, 2022 9:46:53 GMT 1, what problems, will someone please say what the problems are, because I haven't read anything yet that outlines exactly what the problems are. "stuff" "customers" "service", he's not a shoe shop, start thinking of these things as art projects and ways to facilitate them for the "normal person in the street" than a get rich quick scheme. As for his PR team crafting an image. Not even close to the truth. You'd benefit from taking off those glasses that only allow you to see the world through economics, and start looking at the art again.

All leaked info was leaked by one of the current directors, the other director is extremely tight lipped. How do Banksy fans feel about an art dealer knowing info like this. I always had some level of insider info but certain things were never discussed and for good reason. Are you saying Mark told you where Banksy lived and when the Ukraine project was happening:-) but that Jenny is tight lipped? tut tut, come on. That's not very ethical, or true, is it. You registered the company and site back in 2019 and launched with the promise of some CO'less flyers and memorabilia. Maybe give him a call instead of making silly threats on a public forum to shore up your own social and cultural capital. People on here aren't as clueless and naive as you perhaps think.
Setting the money part of it to the side. I edited my last post and there's an important point that shouldn't get lost. I have enough information to knock the artists front door within a week if I was inclined, I'm not. Someone in a closer demographic could do the same if they had the same information, in an afternoon. No. And I'm not planning on saying names, that serves no purpose. You must be purposely choosing to be ignorant. Read over my posts. I only deal in facts. Hence why I'm comfortable posting certain things, I'm very aware of the legal team. I appreciate you and others keeping the thread alive, this could have fizzled out very quick

You implied it though right, that you could go knock on Banksy's door, and that one of the current directors had leaked this info to you. You asked "How do Banksy fans feel about an art dealer knowing info like this". It feels like you're playing your last card after being shut out of access since PC changed their COA set up and who they now deal with. In effect, since Simon and Holly left, they're having the clean up that a few on here are concerned about, I guess they didnt expect it would include them.

Lastly, none of this should affect you at all. People contact you with prints, the occassional original and now memorabilia, you mark it up and sell it on. I honestly can't see how any of this affects that model at all. Well, apart from the pending global recession I guess. But again, if you focus on the art and projects, they're recession proof.

There will be a CG advert on uaa shortly for quick access to those who are interested in the Banksy market

To feel a little better and more confident about ourselves. No one wants to feel they're being duped, besides, it's terrible for business. Which ironically enough, means that where this isn't the focus ala Banksy/PC etc. Then the focus must be elsewhere, perhaps on the art and the issues it explores, for example. Slava Ukraine !

It's your own doing. You're a hypocrite and people start seeing through you.
Edit: FACT is, the ship is sinking. And you're drowning with them.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by storm breaker on Nov 21, 2022 10:41:18 GMT 1, I edited my initial post. Re above comment. I was trying to be humble. In the B world all dealers are small time. Out of all the B dealers on the planet, although not the most public, I'm certainly one of the most trusted and respected. What is it you do? Then you may want to up your pie portions there Andy as you're certainly not coming across that way at all. I am no longer in the game as much these days but you know me and I know that you have sold fakes over the years and I suspect thats why the aforementioned no longer have any respect for you nor want to work with you any more. Are you on about the 'Backdoor' invaders? if so that was another dealer from Ireland

The manically obsessing over LIITB is what damaged JPS's reputation, nothing to do with me, you do him absolutely no favours by continuing it.
