As strange as it might sound to most on here, Love Welcomes' have other products to focus on the production of. They have their own identity to nurture and grow. I can't imagine they will want to be tied to the Banksy market, at the expense of their existing customer base ad infinitum.

Asking people to wait an indeterminate amount of time for something all depends on the market you're selling to. If you're producing something that costs £30k, you're probably dealing with a market that accepts a long wait. As anyone using this forum knows, the mid-level art market is not famously patient or understanding. Look at how many threads and posts there are on here asking for updates on an order they've just made or getting furious when they think someone's jumped the queue. We already know a fair few people bought to flip and they're not going to be patiently waiting for two years.

A company that sells mats and cushions for charitable causes isn't going to be used to that market. A waiting list of thousands would cause them massive headaches from impatient customers. I'm sure they're not set-up to manage that and if I were them I wouldn't want to, even if it meant a big immediate boost in cash for the charity. It's ok to be a small operation, even if it means you're not achieving the maximum revenue possible.

A word to people bidding/buying these on eBay there are two scenarios that can happen 
1. The mat is unlimited in which case you will be shipped your mat at a vastly increased price
2. The mat is limited or has some extra bonus etc in which case you will receive a refund from the seller who will refuse to honour the transaction.

Either way you will not be getting a good deal. Join the waiting list and try to get one from source.

Do not think anyone on this forum would buy secondary market

But what is it you sell, i need to know please

I personally don't sell anything. I'm Director of Ops for a Fortune 100 Company, overseeing CA's Market. The product from start to completion takes a year or longer, and I personally oversee the delivery of said product to around 10,000 customers a year with an average price of around 18k+.

I seem to remember when I looked at the product that there was no limit on how many you could purchase .

So how is that being managed

And How long also will it be too before someone reverse engineers one.

These will have to be limited and it could be something like 25 -50 per month for ever. That is the only way it can be sustainable for them without diverging from there other product lines.

They need to state it will be unlimited and quickly to stave off the secondary market .

You're right. GDP says "Unlimited Edition". The sign in the shop said "From an Edition"... but that's vague and could mean anything. Timed Edition, Open Edition... or just as many as we can be bothered to make!

But LW have said there'll be more, and there's a waitlist, implying they'll continue to make them for a while at least.

A question for anyone who ordered the mat through the Lw link on the gdp site.

Did you have to register on gdp I.e did you have to answer does art matter, then get confirmation email from gdp saying that’s what you’ve put your name down for?

If you didn’t, I would say your safe to try for something else.

Wouldn't part of the goal also be to help the refugees get placed in a more permanent situation. I mean, it's not like a traditional 9-5 job where the punch in every day and grab a cup of coffee right?

I just don't think they sit around all day having HR meetings about how many Banksy Mats they need to produce this week to keep up with P&L's

I think they may have swapped around the Banksquiat and Welcome Mat measurements. It looks like the Banskquiat on the window tags said 51 x 86?

The wait will be long like I said . The money they receive is a “starter” fund to give back some dignity . But they need people willing to make these and I’m sure camp life is grim and we are all speculating how big the edition will be are they limited unlimited ...

Not mine. It's a powerful piece, and if they're actually made from life jackets washed ashore, could be made from someone who perished while trying to find salvation. Doesn't seem right to walk on the remnants of a "Life Jacket" that was never designed to  float or save that person to begin with.
