Banksy Welcome Mat, by eliopp on Oct 21, 2020 9:40:43 GMT 1, Looks good, eliopp, and I think I'll go for a similar thing. Any advice on what techniques the framer used/what you asked for to get it like that?
Cheers, I'm really happy with how it came out. To be honest I can't exactly remember the conversation, we looked at so many different options I've forgotten how we even landed on this! At first I was wary of a black frame because I didn't want the straps to get lost, but in real life they don't at all. I do know it's held on with thread so all very easy to reverse should I ever need to. Sorry I can't help more in that regard!

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Grillocracy on Oct 21, 2020 17:58:14 GMT 1, Just picked mine up from the framer and am really pleased with how it turned out. I know I'll catch grief from some for including the tag but I felt it was part of the piece so I had them include it.
The frame is black metal with small blue-grey spots (almost like water drops) and a blue-grey mat.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Zippy on Oct 21, 2020 18:03:24 GMT 1, Interesting choice of framing and pleased you are happy with the result.
2 questions:
1. Is that fluff / part of the mat in the bottom right hand corner?
2. With the tag showing, does it not feel that the mat now looks 'off centre' in the frame? Visually it looks like it has been pushed too far up - but wondered if your framer discussed this with you before completing the job?

Visually it looks like it has been pushed too far up - but wondered if your framer discussed this with you before completing the job? Yeah, there are a few loose bristles that dislodged on the drive home but the back screws off so it can be opened and brushed out if ever warranted/wanted.
And yes, we debated adding space at the bottom for the tag. The other option was to add more space on the other edges but it increased the overall footprint more than I wanted.
Plus the fact that the mat isn't perfectly centered didn't matter much to me personally, though as I mentioned before I knew I'd catch some heck on here for having the tag there.

Demand was so high, that they needed to rip apart new vest to make these. and before you all get your panties in a bunch, know that im kidding/ joking. What is serious though is all the lives lost is search of a better life.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Dust Buster on Oct 21, 2020 20:49:25 GMT 1, this was my biggest diapointment.I would of liked a life jackets as well Someone heare posted a link to where i could buy one, when i looked at the link it was european and would not ship to USA Anyone willing to hook a brother up, and purchase and ship for me?
If you live anywhere near where water activities are done, I'll bet you can probably get one, pre-sunbleached, for next to nothing. I'm thinking jet ski, kayak, etc, rental places that get rid of the old ones at the end of the season, which is right now in most parts of the US.

Didn’t realize you required one identical to what was in the display.

if they are happy with £500 a mat then thats their prerogative

It's up to individuals, but donating a small amount to a charity that you made £1500+ profit out of in less than a year, doesn't seem out of order to me.

This is always my same exact argument in this case. The charity reached their goal for that mat when you bought the mat at their asking price. If you want to donate more when you sell for a profit, that's great. But don't try and guilt your personal preference onto someone else.

The charity reached their goal for that mat when you bought the mat at their asking price. If you want to donate more when you sell for a profit, that's great. Look at the recent Hirst hearts and rainbows.. about 8k total were purchased between the large/small variants of each. They raised about £3m doing it that way, and I think it’s fair to say the editions of 1-3k per were far under expectations of many here. With the mats, they’ve already broken the £1m mark and demand has not nearly been reached yet. I think it’s completely possible to break Hirsts mark and that’d be a significant accomplishment I’d say.
Are flippers profiting off a charitable release? Yes. Are they also contributing to said cause by purchasing, and furthering the demand and long term success of the project? I’d argue so. If they were easy to get and anyone could get as many as they wanted - less people would. People want what they can’t have, box sets and WOH posters didn’t significantly flip until the recent albeit temporary hotel closure. Hirsts open editions for charity didn’t exceed expectations.
I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t buy a £500 mat for the sake of charity. I’d buy a £500 mat that was produced by Banksy though. Especially not knowing whether or not I’ll have the opportunity again. FOMO is real. I still don’t have a box set because I didn’t have any sense of urgency to buy.. but in part thanks to flippers, that’s present for mats.
