Banksy Welcome Mat, by JW on Aug 15, 2020 23:01:06 GMT 1, The best framing for this would be like the below, but in all black with glass. The one posted previously almost did that, bit the backing should have been jet black. will just leave that idea here. Trust me. Do agree, though I generally prefer a white frame.
Thoughts on white frame with black background like my Morons? I'm not yet convinced it would work.

The tag displayed ruins it imo.

Would you ‘lose’ the straps with a jet black backing? I’m really undecided about what I’ll ask to be done with mine. I was toying with a dark grey backing. 🤔

Interesting. I really need to give it some more thought. I’m not sure when it might arrive so plenty of time to keep seeking inspiration and thinking it over. I just better not cock it up after all that!!

Banksy Welcome Mat, by jonvespa on Aug 16, 2020 0:40:52 GMT 1, Is Afroken still on these boards? If so, they can see the Love Rat in the reflection that they sold me like 11 or 12 years ago, haha How much was it then ? £1200? I think I paid $1000US for it....even that was a lot considering every other print I bought was $500-750

Strong point which on balance I would agree with. There is a rather garish disconnect here between:
(a) some owners understandably wanting to display the GDP tag (such tag evidencing a prestigious Banksy connection); and
(b) the very raison d'être of the mat, along with its meaning.
__________
But even if this had been a less serious work, my own preference would be to continue keeping the tag hidden (at least when the mat is viewed from the front), for a couple of reasons:
1. Aesthetic
Despite being interesting in itself, the tag is arguably a visual distraction from the art, shifting both emphasis and viewer focus. For me, that undermines rather than enhances the work.
2. Personal disposition or culture
I am naturally drawn to discretion and understatement, traits that are more appealing to me than ostentatiousness.
Using a fashion house analogy, it is the difference between a "Hey, look what I'm wearing!" Versace enthusiast and the label-free, assured "Good afternoon." approach of a Bottega Veneta client. Although of course both brands still offer luxury products, the signals they send out are noticeably different.

I agree with this and it is a very good analogy. I think that the way it was displayed at GDP should be used as a reference where no label was displayed.
Displaying the label for me ruins the aesthetic.
One other way of looking at it though is that this is a Gross Domestic Product that was available in a Homeware store so the label could be seen as an important part of the overall piece. I am not sure if the placement of the label on the back for the first batch and then being changed for the other batches was done for a specific reason.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Lunch Special on Aug 16, 2020 16:30:24 GMT 1, I still want a mat if anyone wants to offer me one for close to cost. Had a generous offer from a forum member but I just didn’t have the funds
Promise I will return the favor with either obtaining something and offering it up as close to cost as possible or with some rare Banksy bits and bobs.
What’s a Peckham rock or a angel with paint pot from the museum going for nowadays?
Still have doubles of all the Bristol museum posters from 2009 including MP ( probably won’t let the MP posters go )
I might trade the time out numbered Sidney rat for a mat.
Bunch of stuff. Might have a few radar rat sleeves.
Really want a mat

Banksy Welcome Mat, by eschiff on Aug 17, 2020 9:32:38 GMT 1, Latest batch of Mats are showing up... Haha you're like a mat whisperer. Mine just arrived - ordered on July 16th, was not expecting it this soon. It's a pretty powerful piece, opened the box and was taken aback about what it represents. I don't think I'm going to frame/hang mine, will look for a coffee table that I can put this under the glass of.
I know I've seen an example on this thread but if anyone has any leads/pointers please do let me know.
