It is also exceptionally difficult to get anything limited by Yoshitomo Nara; his fan base outside of UAA is massive. Yoshitomo Nara is probably one of the top sellers in the Contemporary Art market right now. His auction price are insane.
He's pretty strict on how he release things as well now. He refuses to sign anything anymore because he knows there are so many faked signed items being sold. I was fortunately to have chatted (in japanese) and grab a beer with him at event in NYC and a person came up to him and asked for an autograph. He was really polite and explained why he couldn't. He is actually a really nice person if you get the chance to talk with him.
He hasn't released any new signed prints in years. PACE prints was the company that handles all his more current prints. They now start at 20-30K for a signed print by PACE. Who knows if they release another set this year in Basel, but so far they have told me that they have no plans yet for another Nara print. Also, last time I checked PACE did not have any Nara's or secondary Nara's available.
If this is really an edition of 1000, which Ebay and the curator has mention this print is limited to 1000, and on thick paper... This print could easily be around the $2,000 - 3,000 range; maybe even more someday or in a auction...

If you stuff this in a cheap Michaels frame or just shove it in a corner - like you are somewhat suggesting; you are not being very smart. Then sell it to someone here for 150. Seems like a lot people wouldn't mind one.
If you looked at the ebay purchase results, when it was happening, many were only sold 1 to 2 at a time. So no, there were not hundreds of UAA members buying all of them.
The only way this print becomes worth less than $150 is if Yoshitomo Nara, the Museum and Ebay decide to re print the exact same print again. I doubt this will happen. I'm shocked to even think anyone would believe this worth less than $150.

As has been explicitly confirmed, this is a limited edition archival print pack, not poster, and there were only 1000 units. I wouldn't hold your breath on a reissue whatsoever.

To me, screenprints, inkjets, offset lithos, they're just all posters to me. My apologies if my ignorant comments offend. Just be aware of my ignorance.
In my view, Nara never posted about this release, so I assume he or his company just gave an okay to make 1000+ copies of his original painting to raise money for a museum and now everyone's trying to hype the rarity of these unsigned copies so that they can sell it for a premium at some point. I guess that's just the art world - it's insane. People make price estimations based on previously established precedence of 'morons' buying unsigned pieces of paper and try to make justifications. And idiocy piles on more idiocy until it just becomes the norm.
In the end, has anyone really been blown away by a print/poster/lithograph? Has anyone really been stunned by seeing these pieces of paper "in the flesh"? Do pictures really not do justice to these posters? Are the colors really "insane?"
All this hype everywhere. It's just too much.
I have no doubt that there'll be idiots out there who will buy these things for a premium because they bought into all the justifications. Plenty of them in this world. And these people in this thread asking to purchase one, I just assume that they're sellers who are lying and posting just to build hype.
Anyhow, there's my angry rant for the day.

I'm pretty ignorant to the machinations behind offset printing vs intaglio vs aquatint, etc, so to me it's just the language sellers use to gussy up their products so they can offer their wares at different pricepoints. Feel free to attack my ignorance with true knowledge, because when I look at videos of stone lithography at Mourlout, I have no more respect for the process, than watching videos of people either screenprinting by hand or machine, or clicking print on a mouse. The end product is just ink on paper of copies of original art. And since I've never printed before, I really don't have an appreciation for the method used to make these copies. It's also an interesting time to be a collector, and by interesting I mean confusing as open editions by Kaws now regularly hit the big auction houses for thousands - I think I posted on UAA a while ago about Phillips listing a set of open edition Kaws figures that hadn't even sold out at source for like Β£3.5k!
Open editions now seem to be performing like larger edition sizes used to for certain hot artists, and with that in mind here's an unsigned unnumbered open edition Nara TOWEL for $3-5k in case anyone's interested!

Me too, and whilst I see where Nobokov's coming from re. the unsigned / unnumbered poster thing, I'm not overly concerned about more being produced as the sticker set which will signify a 1st edition run (of 1000) will still make them desirable to collectors.
