BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by JW on Sept 19, 2020 20:37:57 GMT 1, Did a unsigned flying copper really go for 75K? Yep, it seems insane but:
1. It's a truly iconic Banksy image - we are seeing that the image ultimately wins over signature/smaller edition size. 2. Arguably its message has even more relevance now than ever before. 3. It's also massive. It's been mentioned here before but I believe the only larger print is Applause.

It’s always been one of my favourites (gonna be biased though as I’ve been fortunate enough to have one on the wall for years) just didn’t expect such a big price, I thought it had to be a signed edition.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by avec art on Sept 19, 2020 21:39:55 GMT 1, ... I like this idea. Banksy deliberately pumps his own market so high and so fast on a scale almost unseen in the artworld just prior to the unveiling of the comical bbay. An event which sees the release of all of the original prints for a pittance and unlimited as long as stocks last. No one can complain because it'll all be done for a worthy cause.

Why does it need pumping up? He could just open it.

Sotheby's always work with Banksy on sales. Weren't they in on the shredding Girl With Balloon? Maybe this is another stunt. Especially if dry mounted, unsigned prints making records for any living artist.

I think if he’s pumping the market on the prints it will be done with a view to raise the prices of the originals he will be sending to auction shortly. Spend a few million pumping prints and get all that back and plenty more on a few originals plus he still has the prints to stock bbay

are people not clear on what bbay is? banksy is not selling his own stock there. Its an approved resale platform. they already do this behind the scenes

It obvious that the prices are being pumped people just don’t suddenly come out of nowhere and start paying way over the odds for artworks.

It obvious that the prices are being pumped people just don’t suddenly come out of nowhere and start paying way over the odds for artworks. Maybe - but they wont tank their market, it makes him and his shareholders too much money plus it will reduce and proceeds to good causes. Anyone thinking he will magically tank his own market when he can sell a canvas for millions needs their heads checking. He’s not tanking it he’s building it up short term. Spend 1 million on prints create a price rise then sell 10 originals at the new pumped up price range and potentially make tens of millions. You also then have a million pounds worth of prints to add to your stock room. When you buy off bbay you won’t know who’s selling you the print people will consign their prints to bbay and they will fulfil the orders. I’m guessing they already have 150+ banksquiat prints and a few flower triptychs in stock that went unsold I’m a fan of Banksy but I’m also not looking through rose tinted glasses

Banksy will never crash his market and also his ‘inverstors’ will never let the market crash. Too much money at stake.
It will be the oh there’s unlimited prints. Well this is the original run so now it’s 2x more valuable.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Not 4 The Thril on Sept 21, 2020 4:38:35 GMT 1, I am a little slow-
are we saying that banksy just bought all of his own prints that were up for auction at sothebys --at a marked up price- so that when bbay opens he can better control the resale price of his own work?
then after spending millions on his own prints turn around and sell them cheaper on his own website?

My point was more just buy it directly from LW and not on the secondary market.
