Stormzy Stab Vest by Banksy, by Carl Cashman on Jul 1, 2019 17:57:38 GMT 1, Y'know, I left the boards a few years back and have recently returned but, without sounding like I'm having a dig, Who remembers the old days when Banksy, Mr B, whatever you guys are calling him now, who remembers when he used to attend in person to Glastonbury, create fun?! I'm sorry but, and here's where I'll probably get attacked but don't you feel like he's just "Phoning it in" nowadays? He obviously can't do the same thing every year, and I seem to remember plenty of years he did nothing. Pulling off a stunt/statement like this, with the Headline act, I'd hardly call "Phoning it in" ! Plus Paul Insect re-releasing Clockwork Britain can't be a coincidence.
I've no idea if he's there in person, but I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe he's running the Shagrilart stand and helped build the Paul Insect Rainbow, for all we know!?
Both artists nailed it this year... IMO! He would have been there, probably in block9 as they build all his big work like walled off and dismaland. Hes nothing to do with shangri la though.

Stormzy Stab Vest by Banksy, by irl1 on Jul 1, 2019 18:50:59 GMT 1, Anybody else like banksy less over this or is it just me? Yeah, I'm a bit uncomfrotable with it too.
One way you could look at this is that here we are, the first black British solo artist headlining Glastonbury and he's used as a model for a piece of art by a white middle class artist. Didn't even ask Stormzy if he was cool about it beforehand...?
Banksy's photobombed piece of history there IMHO. Stormzy won't be able to stick a photo in the family album without someone saying "Is that the Banksy?" to him at some point. That would get right on my t*ts after a while... I'd wear it as a nappy never mind a vest and burn the family album

It’s almost as if wealthy middle-aged men aren’t his target audience. Well, he does seem rather pleased with his new bodysuit, made by a wealthy middle age man...

Everybody was talking about Stormzy's performance. It was epic. The Banksy vest is a side note at best it's hardly a new concept. What I find interesting is that the stabbings in major UK cities has been all over the news for months but this hasn't captured the imagination in the same way as a Rapper and an artist/s has done. The message is the same. It's not the message but who delivers it. Respect is won not given. Fuck knows what I'm trying to say really.

Stormzy Stab Vest by Banksy, by silvermyn on Jul 1, 2019 20:21:53 GMT 1, Stormzy was on the biggest stage going, giving his all and trying to get an important political message across. All the while, he was wearing a piece of artwork worth about £250k (if not more). How seriously will he be taken?
Banksy should have done this but kept it quiet. Going public was a bad idea IMHO. This almost smacks of self promotion at the expense of somebody else.
The vest will become a legacy of this performance, sadly.

It's not like Stormzy is some up and coming artist nobody had heard of.. he was a headline act for a reason.

Stormzy Stab Vest by Banksy, by eyectopus on Jul 2, 2019 12:50:53 GMT 1, Thus far, my own focus has simply been on the design of the vest. Having seen the Union Jack reproduced the wrong way on many occasions (including for actual flags sold commercially), I'm heartened that the Saint Andrew and Saint Patrick saltire components were arranged correctly. All around me lies a wealth of small pleasures.
The design is excellent and is very striking. The thing that really interests me is the drips from the white paint and none from the red. The drips are important and help identify the vest as being by Banksy. I wonder why the red has no drips, is it so not to be misinterpreted as blood drips or does it just look better without them?
I have just looked more closely and it is probably due to the red being applied before the white, so drips would not have looked right.

Cheers for posting the photos Pipes. I hadn't seen them ones. Although these show the colours muted, some of the stage photos appear even more muted. The contrast against the black couch and with the straps of the vest shows more of a dark blue than black aswell.

Stormzy Stab Vest by Banksy, by moron on Jul 3, 2019 12:34:56 GMT 1, "Stormzy was praised for his comments by several politicians, including Mr Corbyn, who said: “Congratulations, Stormzy, for winning your first Brit award and what a powerful performance #Grenfell.”
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-stormzy-grenfell-brit-awards-2018-performance-response-victims-fire-a8223036.html
Bankzy and Stormzy are both big Corbyn supporters and prmoters.
Stormzy looks like a very amateurish rapper or singer but he does posture very well and glorifies gang culture as he advertises adidas products in his videos.
Whilst playing the victim he has done very well and made a lot of money under a Tory government.
His rapping appeals to a certain section of urban yoof who believe everything in his lyrics.
"Boris" in his lyrics, rhymes with "Chuck Norris" (who Stormy identifies himself with) who just happens to be a big Trump supporter.
Glastonbury and obviously some marketing people made the platform for Stormy to headline Glasto (which means F A to me) in order to market and promote him and make money as well as being very politically biased on the part of multi millionaire property owning Eavis and his cronies.
I'm sure Stormzy realises that he is being used for financial and political agendas and he knows his vocal limits too and also knows his audience who buy his records will no doubt wane over the years.
He won't criticise Khan and won't criticise the reason for knife crimes because Khan is Labour and the reason for knife crimes is bad role models, drug dealing and gang culture as well as wanting to get rich quick for some without working honestly in order to buy the latest Adidas etc sneakers and bling. So doubt Stormy wants to criticise people who are buying his music and making him rich to a certain degree.
Instead it's all BS rhetoric blame the government give us money or we will continue criminal behaviour. The worst are the white lefties who play the blame the white man game and in reality are using ethnic minorities as pawns in their pursuit of disrupting civil society because it is not a communist regime in charge where theiem and their pals, all white marxists get to own the countries cheque book and steal and divide the countries wealth amongst themselves and their cronies whils't the poor get poorer, education standards go down and free speech is oppressed even more. Where also crime will be even more ignored so that the Marxist state under that nut job Corbyn can blame others for spreading lies which are in fact the truth about the mess that far left politics and politicians create.
I'm sure Stormzy knows that but he has to keep the money rolling in and allows himself to be marketed in this way.
His homophobic comments make no difference to me. People say daft things all the time. Maybe he meant what he said or maybe he did not and maybe he apologised profusely realising that the music and marketing industry has many gays and could black ball him the way Shaba Ranks was sidelined after his comments based on his Christianity.
Fair play to Stormzy and Bankzy and I wonder if Stormzy will get a letter from the tax man for recieving a gift worth alledgedly 250K ?

He was nominated for a Mercury for best Album last year I believe. Has just had a number one album in the UK charts. That album also won a Brit award for best album, and he won an Ivor Novello award for it too. He has generally been doing his thing for many years on the Grime scene. I wouldn't feel to bad though, you probably haven't heard of Wiley, Dizzy, Kano or Skepta either who were all early pioneers in the genre.
