I hope they got some of the art out, some stunning pieces in there

Huge fire in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, by Lroy on Apr 15, 2019 20:55:59 GMT 1, How can we find this beautiful?!?!?! Wait for the print release this is not art. A disaster. Fire is not beautiful, kills and stinks. This cathedral was Hugo, littérature , poetry, light, the heart and the soul of Paris. When you have lived decades in Paris, this is unbelievable, tragical. No more words

Huge fire in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, by dirtypete on Apr 15, 2019 21:23:16 GMT 1, This is such a terrible loss for Paris, France, the World.
It’s such an beautiful building and one that I always visited when I was in Paris, just to experience the atmosphere. The richness of history of this building was incredible and something that can’t be recreated easily.
The destruction of history is a terrible thing to witness and my heart goes out to all those impacted.

They saved some objects, as the Holy crown of thornes, a symbol, the symbol of Notre-Dame, all the roof ( called the forest and made with old giant trees )has felt down inside., even the structure-stones - will be damaged I’m afraid that the stained glasses, the unic giant organ, has all been molden or destroy too. Anyway water, heat, smokes, are destroying as much as the fire itself. I am not a believer but I’m concerned, shaken.. it’s terrible. We will never know surely what has happened but don’t believe fake news.
I was also sad when Daech destroyed most of the art of Palmyre and Alep. It’s our memory and history. I don’t know if they will rebuilt it,.. I just hope that the structure will not be too much damaged ...

Huge fire in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, by extraball on Apr 16, 2019 11:14:22 GMT 1, The Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, devastated by a fire on Monday night, contains for centuries relics venerated by Catholics, a organ with remarkable dimensions and many works of art. "The organ is obviously quite affected, the large paintings, have damage related to water, they will have to be restored," French Culture Minister Franck Riester said on Tuesday morning. The most precious relic preserved at Notre Dame is the Holy Crown, laid, according to the belief of the Catholics, on the head of Jesus shortly before his crucifixion. This relic was "saved" from the flames on Monday, as the tunic of Saint-Louis, also preserved in the cathedral, according to Bishop Patrick Chauvet, rector of the cathedral. In addition to the Holy Crown, Notre-Dame preserves two other relics of the Passion of Christ: a piece of the Cross and a nail of the Passion. Three relics were nevertheless nestled in the cock overcoming the arrow that collapsed Monday evening: a plot of the Holy Crown of Thorns, a relic of Saint-Denis and one of Sainte-Geneviève. On the other hand, according to Bishop Chauvet, the "big paintings" or "grand mays" of the cathedral could not be "unhooked". Between 1630 and 1707, the corporation of the Parisian goldsmiths offered each May 1st a canvas to the cathedral. Of these 76 "big Mays", 13 were presented in the various chapels of the nave. On the west wall of the Saint-Guillaume Chapel was notably hanging one of the most beautiful paintings of the cathedral, whose status is unknown: The Visitation of Jean Jouvenet (1716) masterpiece of the eighteenth century, and vestige of the baroque choir of the cathedral. Last Thursday, 16 copper statues depicting the 12 apostles and the four evangelists were unhooked from the spire of the cathedral to be restored and thus escaped the disaster. The great organ The concern also concerns the three organs and in particular the great organ. With its five keyboards, 109 games and nearly 8,000 pipes, it's the most monumental of all. But his pipes are made of a tin-lead alloy, which can withstand heat and humidity very badly. The organ would have been badly damaged by the water from the fire hoses. Several uncertainties also concern the windows of the cathedral. "Under the heat of the fire and the fall of the frame, parts of the medallions could be destroyed, just as the lead that binds them could melt," worried Bertrand de Feydeau, vice-president of the Heritage Foundation, on TF1 Monday night. The three rose windows of Notre-Dame de Paris, stained glass windows that represent the flowers of paradise, were built in the 13th century, then renovated several times. The north and south rosettes, the two largest, are 13 meters in diameter.
