The true deckled edge is rather lovely as you can see the wispy threads of the pulp, it doesn't really look like a torn edge, although by folding the paper both ways and wetting it slightly and tearing in the same plane you get an effect that is broadly similar.

His post says "Hand-torn decal edge" so that's clearly saying they are hand torn.

Thanks for the comments and glad you’re all enjoying the work! It’s always highly appreciated to hear your comments.

Atom - you’re 100% correct!
I tend to use the rather lumpy double-phrasing as I found generally, people purchasing work didn’t know what a deckled edge was but understood the aesthetic of a hand-torn edge.

To complicate things further, the paper used on (some) of my prints doesn’t come supplied as 100% each edge deckled. Two edges are generally deckled as you rightly mention and then the other edges are hand-torn. For the prints, I’ll generally specify for those hand-torn edges to be trimmed before supplying to aid with print registration. After printing is complete, those edges will be once again hand-torn finished but may also be hand-torn throughout depending on print production/process and other variables.

My original paintings on paper: generally are 100% deckled if on a standard paper size such as the 570 x 760mm.
The smaller pieces (like those mono paintings above) tend to be hand-torn throughout.

I think it’s a great observation for the more discerning collector and it’s easy enough for me to amend.

As for the spelling, ha! Yes… that’s something I noticed a few years ago and never got around to changing but I will. I’ve picked up that spelling from an old printer maker years ago and I just left it.

Hi Gang,

I'm about to launch a new collection of original paintings - my biggest single release yet.

My classic Loose Ends collage forms with a twist.
These works are inspired by kaleidoscopic imagery through the language of play.

Consisting of 30 paintings, these large-scale pieces are a deeper abstraction of my familiar Loose Ends shapes, forms, colours and collages. Playing with form, pattern and geometry, they have been spun and manipulated to create another visual language, just like a child's toy.
