I used red spacers on framing my Bast "The Nose". The print is just 1 colour, red, and I think it worked quite nicely and still looked very simple... But I've not done it on anything else!

most of my framing is very plain but i bought a framed Pins clockwork britain that had coloured spacers and liked it so i had another print framed in same manner as they hang next to each other.

Last time I bought a painting the artist had made the whole frame.
Ended up with a shredded canvas...

Generally we would advise customers not to add a coloured mount to a picture as this adds (in a good or bad way) to the overall appearance of the picture. If the artist wanted a large coloured border around their image, they would of included it right?

If someone does want a bit of colour to make the framing stand out and to highlight a part of a picture, then coloured spacers can certainly work quite well as this isn't on the front face of picture.

Here's a couple of examples where we used hand painted spacers to pick out a colour in a print, which I think worked quite nicely...

i have thought about putting a changable colour led strips with a remote control in the spacer gap, its the new thing, you heard about it here from me, first, i am waiting for the patent to come through, then i am dragons den, just got to think of how to pitch it

appreciate framing should suit who is getting it framed bit the OP did ask for some picture examples as well as opinions. Mibbe some pics would help him decide.

dont think it’s that strange....asking a art related question on a art forum. Yes I am the one who will be looking at it but thought I would get/see some examples. I’ve found the input so for to be helpful and for a change not full of wanky remarks.

I proceed with caution when considering spacers. For me it totally depends on the art itself. 95% of the time I wouldn't consider it, but every now and then I grab a print and it just makes sense (my recent Eelus, for example).

Yes. Personally I like having a colour spacers here and there if I feel it works well with the piece.  Half of my collection have spacers, here are some examples. 

Yes I like gold leaf ha! But main reason was to match elements of the original featured in the Saatchi Gallery.

thats like me. All my pictures are either in white or black frames floated. Just feel like mixing it up a bit. I’ve got a good bit of time before they go in but I think I’ve made my mind up. And the I think it should work with the two prints that are getting framed.

It can look pretty good. Most times overdone and tacky. I prefer simple framing. Let the art speak for itself.
