New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by Deleted on Oct 26, 2018 21:00:47 GMT 1, I think these are poor really but with retna prices. $4000 and they would sell I think. People think he’s some super star artist because he sells a load of art to dumb celebs but the secondary market will tell you all you need to know about an artists position. His 50000 canvasses re sell for 20-30000 And he’s a t**t I do want to get into one of his prints. I just cant justify the 10k price tag , when there is banksy and picasso out there for the same price. What is secondary on his "decent" prints. I see people asking 10 k but obv that is above market
The only prints he’s ever released worth any money seem to be the diptych but they are over £10000 now.

New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by nobokov on Oct 26, 2018 21:46:16 GMT 1, How much are KAWS prints? I'm definitely not a fan of these RETNA prices, but I wonder why I don't accept it, but accept KAWS prints to be as high as they are. Why do I think $1300 is too much for a Murakami print, but Jonas wood at $15000 seems to make sense?

Re sell value is the simple answer

Im not against artists with strong secondary markets charging closer to secondary prices. It discourages flippers and puts more margin in the artists pockets. That said, from what I can tell you can pick up a wide selection of Retna prints for ~$5k. The secondary market isn’t on the level of KAWS. If KAWS had dropped an edition of 30 at $10k a pop they would have lasted 20 seconds.

His work speaks to me far more than KAWS. Does an artist need to be bland, spotless and marketable like a 1997 Tiger Woods in order to rise through the ranks?

New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by dranfan on Oct 27, 2018 9:42:59 GMT 1, I do want to get into one of his prints. I just cant justify the 10k price tag , when there is banksy and picasso out there for the same price. What is secondary on his "decent" prints. I see people asking 10 k but obv that is above market The only prints he’s ever released worth any money seem to be the diptych but they are over £10000 now.
Pretty rash statement, his prints such as Esoteric Existence, Sangria and Eastern Realm are all £7-15k. The Dips you will have to pay £14-16k and thats from a private deal. Galleries selling for £18-20 and are selling.
I don’t own any Retna but have been looking into it so know the market relatively well

(3 Black, 2 red, 2 white, 2 blue, 2 brown and another). Try to find one of those cheap. Will take some doing.

New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by dranfan on Oct 28, 2018 10:33:41 GMT 1, I know of two Esoterics selling privately for 15 & 16k in the last two months.
The new editions now sold out at PTA. Not my cup of tea but obviously still demand for his works even at higher price point....

This Esoteric's 1/1 PP hammered at 13k last month - www.artnet.com/auctions/artists/retna/esoteric-existence-white-2
There are still Blue and Green available of the new edition as well. Not saying there's not a demand, as their obviously is, just don't think its as hot as it was.

Agree think it has tailed off a bit but I am one surprised that the new editions have almost sold out considering they are not s great image and overpriced....

New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by noirrion on Oct 29, 2018 7:30:10 GMT 1, I can actually enjoy most of Retna's work despite the fact that he is obviously quite a difficult character but this edition is really horrible and looks absolutely unmotivated for me Leaves me speechless when comparing this release to earlier ones and even for free this wouldn't make it even close to my walls.

New Retna - Lithographs on Stone ‘’Ludavico & Ludovico’’ , by froncz on Oct 29, 2018 13:41:48 GMT 1, Tbh I kind of like this edition but the price is just plain ridiculous. "Normal" Retna prices are already quite high, but this - 10k - is another level of stupidity.
I was also a bit surprised to see that the green-ish one was the first one to sell out. It was a real eye sore.
