When I see a a/p over a regular I always want the a/p for some reason. Makes no real sense it’s the same thing.

Idea on value? Pair of Copyright Artist Proofs, by ziggystardust on Oct 14, 2018 11:22:57 GMT 1, I understand the artist proof is the trial version that dictates the quality of subsequent prints. So in effect it is the first of the first.
Do you agree?

I think the belief in increased values of Ap's is a hang over from old plate printing when the image quality degrades with every printing.

Idea on value? Pair of Copyright Artist Proofs, by printminx on Oct 14, 2018 13:38:57 GMT 1, Hi, as far as I understand the artists proofs are the final pieces completed leading up to an edition of work. They may vary in their choice of colours or finishing but will be very close to the edition piece of work and you are limited to a maximum of 10% A/Ps per edition. If the print is taken from a metal etching plate, depending on the metal used, the quality of the etching will deteriorate as each print is taken so yes the earlier the number of the edition, the better. Saying that I think the same can be said for screen prints as over time the action of the squeegee back and forth on the screen will make a slight difference to the quality, especially with high numbered editions . Having said that I dont think that half the artists follow any rules, I have seen lots more A/Ps issued where they should have been variations of a print and had their own edition. I have always understood that a low number of an edition is supposed to be better than an A/P but I personally like an A/P as somehow they have more of the artist in them, its something that is still more fluid than the final work. Yep, I know I do go on!! Apologies !!

So if they are 350 for edition, expect about 385 to 400 for the AP.
His work doesnt sell very quick on the secondary market though as he is putting stuff up for sale every few weeks now. So you may only get cost for his work nowadays.
