I could have sworn the Jealous website originally had them listed as (albeit unnumbered) editions of 25.

I cannot prove it but they were definitely sold on the basis of 8 coloured variants with 25 in each edition.

I just spoke to Jealous Gallery and here is what they said. The edition has now been deemed as 'open', signed but not numbered. I asked why it was stated as an edition of 25 on the website post the art car boot fair, when they were popping up on the website. The lady i spoke to said that it didn't say edition of 25. I told her 100% it did say that on the website and that everyone who bought at the art car boot fair was under that impression also. The lady told me that 25 were produced for the fair of each colour but more would likely to be produced.
She told me that the decision was from Chris Levine and the gallery director Louise.


I told what i thought - i said I think they have decided to print more because they are very popular.


Basically it now means this.............. they can print as many as they like and sell as many as they want. The gallery directors name is Louise and you can email her on [e-mail]

I told the lady that I would probably ask for a refund unless it was confirmed how many there would be. She told me i could only ask for a refund within 7 days of purchase. I explained that there was mis-information.

Anyway, please feel free to contact them.............They were nice enough with me, however i am 100% it said it was an edition of 25 each colour.

Apart from the information being wrong, you have a cooling off period of 14 days "after" you receive the items. She is wrong with that 7 day thing.

Also when i ordered online it said an edition of 25 each

I spoke to Dario on the stand and was told that these were an edition of 28 - they had 25 available of each colourway available and the artist had kept three.

Agreed. It was clearly stated on the site and on the day that these were an edition of 25. Enough said.
I think Jealous will lose a lot of respect over this.

They have clearly changed the goal posts and misinformed their customers.

You should have no problem with getting a refund.

At £250 these were a good buy for an edition of 25, i like them. However, as an open edition they aren't as they could keep churning them out forever and ever. It is not really good form to do do this at all and all evidence points to the fact the goal posts have been changed. Can't believe they even tried to say that it did not say edition of 25 on the website - as we see from the picture on this thread, it clearly did!

Think 2 separate screenshots each detailing the word 'edition' and the number 25, one from the artist and one from the gallery would be pretty strong testimony as to why people considered it to be a release of 25 of each colourway! If it had said 'an edition of which 25 of which will be made available at ....'I think it might have been down to interpretation but not with what has been shown on the screenshots.

The Chris Levine works were absolutely always promoted as an open edition in 8 colourways. It is true that only 25 were printed of each print, but if you have the print then you will see that none of them are numbered, as requested by the artist.

Jealous are always upfront and honest about our editions but it seems as though you feel otherwise. This was never our intention and I apologise if you feel this way.

I didn’t buy the print but if I did and thought it was an edition of 25 and then it turned out to be an open edition I’d be pretty pissed

Tell them that open edition implies that they are not limited to the 25 each that was sold. Will they continue to produce and sell more prints? That is your concern.

absolutely they are limited to what has already been printed which is 25 of each. However as the actual prints are unnumbered we have been asked to refer to them as 'open'.
We will not reprint these editions, so there will only ever be 25 of each colourway.
At no point do we want to mislead, so this is the most transparent way of phrasing.
