Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Happy Go Lucky Chap on Aug 8, 2018 0:01:25 GMT 1, what a bunch of mugs - it was always known that the last image was never a photo of Banksy I do think we have to be careful about posting like this. Your point could have been made without the insult. My concern is that members like lha (who, by the way, as far as I can recall has always been respectful of others) may be put off sharing opportunities with us all again. I’m not for one second suggesting you are not free to post what you like, just that the tone of this post might be ill advised in the long run. Well said, and warm thanks to lha for sharing. Peace.

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Howard Johnson on Aug 8, 2018 0:40:18 GMT 1, This is a great find! Very innovative portraits, especially since such few photos of Mr. B. exist.
That being said, these 6" x 8" photographs are insanely priced. Maybe its something to do with the printing process, but surly these could be developed in a larger format to justify the price and massive edition. I usually love stuff like this, but a drug-store photograph with an edition of 500 should be signed by Banksy himself if your going to charge $300 a pop.

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Happy Shopper on Aug 8, 2018 9:09:39 GMT 1, So... These are not photographs of Banksy? I'm confused.
I guess they're official portraits of Banksy, whether that's him behind the Monkey mask, or canvas, or not! No different to the glitter gorilla portrait he did (if that was a self portrait), IMO.

I think if they were signed by Banksy one or even two zeros might be added, even at this size.
Certainly to find something as cheap as this with provenance with a clear association with Banksy is rare. Great images, signed by James and limited makes these seem a very good price IMO.
The fact the "Monkey Mask Session, Tag" and "Canvas Sessions" images by this photographer were used by Banksy in Wall & Piece gives a direct link.
Also Lazarides refers to the "Canvas Sessions" on their website.
www.lazinc.com/artists/banksy/
Then there is the link of "Monkey Mask Session, Tag" with The National Portrait Gallery
www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait/mw136860/Banksy
Given the prices stickers and posters with no provenance sell at these look like great value.
Not sure whether its Banksy or not in these images is overly relevant as the association is certainly there. If these sessions are indeed with Banksy (which I believe them to be) well that just makes them that little bit more special.

"Great value" is a relative concept, especially if those get stuck in a portfolio under the bed ;-) Question is why would anyone want to have these on their walls ?!? ;-)

I guess it will be a different answer for different people.
For me I have never really been into photography but this bridges a gap into a subject I am very interested in. In a similar way I am drawn to the work of Martha Cooper.
I think they are great images that will sit well in my collection. Also they have a great backstory with the direct link to Banksy. The fact that I believe them to be images of the man himself as implied in Wall & Piece makes them an interesting subject matter to look at and consider.
I only mentioned value in response to the thought that they might not be and for that part its only my opinion they are considering the price of Banksy associated works/pieces.
Great find indeed.

Exactly this. Whether it's physically him in the photos or not, they're his official portraits, as used in his book, so they're a Banksy collaboration and part of Banksy's story. In some ways, if it's not him then they're even more of a Banksy collaboration because he'd need to have given at least his approval to the concept for any photo representing him in his own book, if not created the concept himself. That's more collaborative than just picking the nicest photo someone has taken of you.
As to cost and value, it depends how you want to look at it. Not everything needs to be about what it's worth in the future. I want one of these (I bought the canvas sessions one) because it's a tangible and unusual part of the story of an artist I love. I see it as like wanting to visit somewhere that your favourite film was shot, or where your favourite singer was born. It's a connection to something you're passionate about, not just something that might make you a few quid down the line. £229 for a little photo is a lot, sure, if you're thinking about it as an investment. But for something you know you'll enjoy having on your wall for years, it's not much in the long run.
Thanks very much lha for link.

"Great value" is a relative concept, especially if those get stuck in a portfolio under the bed ;-) Question is why would anyone want to have these on their walls ?!? ;-) Personally I could see myself hanging the 'canvas' portrait on my walls. With the 'monkey mask' portaits, the subject is quite obvious. The Banksy tag and the happy chopper lead you directly to the answer (or at least they lead you to believe the person in the picture is an artist / Banksy). What you see is pretty much what you get. As for the canvas portrait, you can look at it very differently. It could be anyone and it is open to interpretation. It isn't necessarily a portrait of Banksy. It doen't really need to be. The wall behind the subject is a clean slate, there are no tags, it doesn't scream 'street art'. It can simply be a comment on a lot of people being obsessed with their self image, having their picture taken or taking selfies and compulsively posting them on social media. Or reversely, it can be a comment on the value of anonymity. Anyway, that's my take on it in a nut shell.
Great find indeed.

So these could be photos of banksy set up by banksy. Or could be photos of a random person set up by banksy. Or could be photos of a random person set up by a random person as homage to banksy...?

This is also referenced in James Pfaff's bio. Sitter is referenced as "Banksy"... whatever that means?

No you mention value, because you will line it up to flip Not that Harveyn needs anyone to defend him/her but... Have you ever seen what his/her collection is consisted of? You must have because he regularly posts pictures of new pieces and re-hangs in the 'latest buy' and 'pad' threads (and I appreciate those posts very much). Absolutely amazing collection. That collection looks like a true art lover's collection to me. When you reach that level (and by that I mean owning mostly original pieces), I don't really think you can be bothered flipping pictures from such a large edition. I don't really think you can be bothered flipping anything at all really. Maybe you sell pieces to make room for new ones but I wouldn't call that flipping. I'll leave it at that.

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Deleted on Aug 8, 2018 17:01:25 GMT 1, Confused by these big time. Seems like a lot of stretching to make these 'official'. So these could be photos of banksy set up by banksy. Or could be photos of a random person set up by banksy. Or could be photos of a random person set up by a random person as homage to banksy...? Why would anyone need to "stretch". They're editions of the photos used in Wall and Piece, being sold by the guy who took them. I don't think anyone who has said they like them is saying more than that. Nobody's suggesting it's equivalent to a Banksy piece, they're just part of the Banksy story, which is interesting to some of us.
This isn't addressed at you Rouen, but I don't get the obsession with value all the time on this forum. People constantly told they're "mugs" for paying an amount for something others think will never sell for the same price, as if selling on is the ultimate goal. If you pay an amount you're happy with for a piece of work that makes you happy (and isn't a forgery) then what's the problem? I'd never dream of paying £5k for a Pejac print, or over £1k for a Martin Whatson, because the pleasure I'd get from them wouldn't be worth that (not slagging off either. I think both are talented, just not my favourites). If someone else wants to pay that and they love having them on their wall, great.
People who don't like these photos needn't buy them. People who buy them to flip probably aren't going to make any money. Those who've bought them because they like them seem perfectly happy with what they're getting.

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Coach on Aug 8, 2018 17:11:30 GMT 1, Confused by these big time. Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Cookiemonster on Aug 8, 2018 17:15:52 GMT 1, The Monkey Masks are 100% Banksy, the 3rd not - but still very nice bits to see again. I think the edition run should have been smaller or a cheaper price point - as 500 at £299 each seems excessive

They're £229 not £299. So that's two things that aren't correct in your post

Your last paragraph is spot on! Sadly art collectors don't always have these priorities.
Hence a lot of talk about value in here and that they are 'collaboration'.
I think there is a lot of questions to what these really are but like you said if you like it buy it!

Good post and it’s mostly to do with value your right and nearly all posts get derailed and sometimes become aggressive. It’s ‘The new greed’ , I mean breed..

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Happy Shopper on Aug 8, 2018 17:49:36 GMT 1, I had a query about my order so thought I'd also ask James about the canvas image. His reply: "All I can say is this. The guy in my images is Banksy. They are absolutely authentic" So make of that what you will.

It appears this may be two of first two. The canvas one has an interesting discription:
"Variant work from Banksy, Wall and Piece/Random House (2005)."
That with the previous photo showing a random guy makes me think that is not actually of banksy. I mean it's not 3D right ( I'm joking)
