Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by iAmCxxx on Mar 22, 2008 14:08:39 GMT 1, Bloody hell. For the last few days I've been having flash backs to the time when BME and WSM were getting sold for £30 each in the bookshop round from my flat. Wish I'd known at the time...but I guess I'm not the only one to be saying that.... It was actually a Christmas present from my ex Mrs. But she wishes she'd kept it. Ha.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by jaimesl on Mar 22, 2008 14:14:00 GMT 1, Is the print signed?
If so, I reckon you're looking at £10 - £12k
If not, I'd say more like £2.5 - £3k
(... appreciating an unsigned recently sold at Bonhams for silly money)
Am I nuts in my evaluation?
... or is Bonhams an accurate reflection of the market?
My personal opinion is that it's not and that it reflects a few nutters with more money than sense, who bought early in a bit of a frenzy.
Are we going to see that sort of craziness again?
I know this makes me sound like a total idiot but I bought I BME when they came out and only just found it it's potential value.... It's been in the tube that I got it in and never taken out (until recently to check out). It's mint and numbered 29/500. Tempted to sell but not sure what I should be looking at. What sort of sales value should I be going for? Ta. send it to a decent auction and you could get between 10-15k imo Forget ebay for top end prints Dont sell it on here, you get stupid offers & a few people trying to take advantage of your lack of knowledge. good luck fella

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by dotdot on Mar 22, 2008 14:14:54 GMT 1, one word - for now do nothing with it (well that means today) see what kind of advice eeks out of this here forum.
for starters you should think about getting it out of that tube - note it won't just go flat....
there's a fair few folks on here would advise on getting a print flat - i'd start by just getting it out - and leaving it somewhere safe - out of the sun - not that we're getting too much at the mo.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by iAmCxxx on Mar 22, 2008 14:20:22 GMT 1, Don't really get it. According to the print info on this forum the first 50 should be signed but this is number 29 and not signed. Was definitely bought December either 2002 or 2003 (I'm guessing December 2002??). It's not like there were fakes around at this time. Anyone shed any light on this???

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by basement on Mar 22, 2008 14:37:35 GMT 1, Its nice to see that you are referring to it as BME on your first post, having nothing to do with Banksy for the last 5 years or so since you bought the print, and not that long winded bombing middle england title....... If you know enough to refer to it as BME, I think you probably also know the relative value for it ( you managed to find your way to this forum, which would be one of several places that came up on an info search.......) But hey-ho, dare say you have the desired PM's offering to buy the print now..... As for the info on the Banksy section, its riddled with inaccuracies, its good as a general guide, but not definitive info by any stretch of the imagination.

Hi basement - thanks for pointing out the inaccuracies around this print. Could you help put some of the info straight? I'd really appreciate it as BME is my favourite Banksy print.

It's weird...I've always followed his work and bought all his books but it just didn't twig that I actually owned an original print.... And regarding my 'knowledge'... I researched enough to know that you don't go on a Banksy forum waving a BME around with your eyes shut....I like my hands on the end of my arms...!

True, Banksy signed the prints as and when a signed one was sold. I'm not sure what print this stopped at but early ones for sure were.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by ABC on Mar 22, 2008 17:18:17 GMT 1, 4 years in a tube!
To add, IMO 4 years in a tube could have knackered the paper, get it out and leave it to unwind by itself, DO NOT FORCE IT FLAT!! I also think that some estimates on here are guesstimates based on strange auction activity for prints mint with full prov (I guess you don't have prov? bonus if you do), its unsigned so IMO its not going near 10k like some are saying, more like 3k but don't stick it on ebay if you are going to sell. But still, a great find and a cracking print........my advice would be...keep it, you have not realised you had it so far, so hide it again for another few years, bring it out of hiding (if you don't put it on your wall).

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by Heavyconsumer on Mar 22, 2008 19:54:07 GMT 1, If you're serious about liquidating it, I'd definitely start by leaving it out of the tube in a cat/dog/child/adult-free room, away from direct sunlight and sealed off from any smokers. Leave it to uncurl naturally. I've no idea how long that'll take after 4 years in a tube, but most likely after a month, a lot of the spring will be gone and you can start to think about flattening it, but if it's still very curled, don't, be patient!
I would then recommend you contact Stephan Ludwig at Dreweatts (www.dnfa.com), who are conducting an urban art auction in June. They are still seeking to fill up their catalogue and so long as they don't already have one of these in it, would definitely be interested in selling your print. This is a well established and respected auction house who will no doubt get the proper attention come June. If you'd rather deal with one of the auction "superpowers" I believe there will be another urban art auction at Sothebeys in August, but be warned I think their fees/premiums are a lot higher. Stephan's very helpful guy and will give you whatever guidance you need.

What sort of sales value should I be going for? Ta.
Tell us what happened when it came out of the tube? Did you force it flat or how were you able to look at it? Did you take any pics?

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by iAmCxxx on Mar 22, 2008 21:43:57 GMT 1, Erm...well it's out of the tube now and on my floor... I had the edges pinned down with records to keep it flat but following advice let it roll back up again. It's pretty 'rolled' and can't see it being in any hurry to unroll itself. The paper is totally undamaged though. I've not done anything daft like try to unroll it the other way or anything ... I can virtually feel some of you cringing with my ignorance while you read this This discovery has inspired me though... Went out and bought myself a PureEvil - Frost on the Thames yesterday... That's out of the tube...

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by Heavyconsumer on Mar 22, 2008 22:10:00 GMT 1, That Pure Evil print is cool, check out his other print "East End Tagger" on www.stelladore.com, if you like it, it would combine pretty well in proximity to "Frost on the Thames". It's a similar take on him dropping vampire bunny bombs on central London. I'd have thought Londoners into street art would have snapped all these up long ago, but I think there are some left. I swapped mine recently, as the wife isn't a punter, sadly.

Some pro framers would tell you to leave it up to two weeks to let the paper settle, I know it sounds madness and over the top but you can't rush these things.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print • 2003 , by BME on Mar 23, 2008 1:08:06 GMT 1, Great image- the best Banksy print in my opinion and one that rarely comes up for sale. At 13k the Bonhams one was silly money but I think that the Bloomsbury auction was probably closer- 3.6k plus just over 20% commission, so about 4.32k all in. You could try selling it on www. (there are no listing or selling fees) I'd ask for 4k.
On another note, I would seriously consider keeping it. Mine's at the framers at the moment- a six week wait! but very much looking forward to getting it up on the wall. It's a classic. Good luck whatever you decide...
