My point is that I myself don't actually know. And given this ignorance, I'm uncomfortable simply relying on the assumption the A/Ps were printed at a later date. With Banksy in particular, any such assumption seems reckless to me.
Either way, in practical terms I'm unaffected; these are just philosophical musings for me. If the works were in fact printed recently, then my position is that dating them 2004 or 2005 on the COAs was the wrong move โ even if it (i) reflects a date when the image was burnt onto the relevant screens, or (ii) has arguably resulted in no real harm being done.

It's been the same after/during every show he sells off to the same crowd. Ie. Museum gig, then sold pieces during the movie tour of USA, boti etc. and now dismal and. It's a good way of controlling the market as they rarely apear quickly at auction. I would be gutted paying (for an investment) market value of 60k pounds for a rare signed GWB then he prints off another 88 which are deemed rarer colour ways etc. but 'he does what he wants, he does what he wants,he's Banksy he does what he wants'!!
Be interesting to see in 10years time what these will be worth. I mean the world economy is screwed so you make no interest in your savings, shares are too dodgy thesdays. I bet so many people have bought Banksy recently as long term investment. My only banksy cost me 450quid and is now say 10k pound and that's in 7years!! I could never afford another but could refinance the house buy a nice OG and sell It when the kids go to uni.

Maybe a hidden past could catch up ? Happened to other artists where their work were worth hundreds of thousands of pounds to now drastically fallen in value .
Could be later identified as a collective group working to produce different styles of art.
With not much directly known about the artist amazing so many people are willing to spend thousands of pounds on an unknown identity or source of work ?
But then again hirst outsources his work and it sells for vast amounts .
Can speculate that more prints will be made but only to the selected list .

If I personally ever had another color GWB than red, I would always still wish I had the red. But that's just me because it's the color I love most for this image. It works best for me with the balloon being a red heart. If others love and covet the other colors more power to them. And yes I have a red. But the fact that I have a red is not the reason I prefer it. If I had a Red, but loved the Pink more, I would certainly say "Damn I friggin love that Pink and wish I had that color instead." Period. |
