Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Curley on Sept 13, 2007 16:44:14 GMT 1, He just never complete his auction and constantly taste the water... This auction will probably, as the past 21CL, never see the end and will be pulled. Is the current 21CL the same number as the last one? Interesting point as I was bidding on a signed GWB about a year ago and that got pulled! Didn't answer any of my emails at the time either! I thought he had accepted an offer and stopped the auction, perhaps that is the reason? Expensive way of having fun though as there are still fee's to be paid!
Interesting who's to say its not a gallery making sure that the prices stay high ?

IMO i would actually expect the one at sotherbys to go for more. I think the people at the auction will be considerably better off that your usual ebayer and will also be competing against each other. Then again i maybe wrong

Bloody sceptics that we are!!

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by endtimes on Sept 16, 2007 23:08:49 GMT 1, I find that print boring myself. It seems a bit atypical of signature banksy style—especially conceptually speaking. At least not forthright. But I guess it depends on how you see it or interpret it. It is different, which may be why some people like it. But it is lacking in what I love about Banksy—the juxtaposition of imagery and humour that is his signature.

I think it's classic, the girls lost what she loves at that moment in time for ever yet her arm is still outstretched with that split second of disbelief. Thats enough wine for one night. Goodnight. F

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by spirit on Sept 16, 2007 23:21:07 GMT 1, I think it's one of his best..and very typical, particularly conceptually. :-) It is one of the simplest expressions of "loss of chilhood/innocence/waking up to the real world" which is a theme in much of his work - I agree it lacks the humour element as a print though...
...but when you see this image on the wall that seperates israel from the palestinians the humour element is right there. Location is an integral part of much of banks'y outdoor work and when you take these images out of context and turn them into a print something is always going to be lost.

Strange that everyone interprets the Balloon as being symbolic of a heart. What if you look at it literally.. i.e. A 3 quid inflatable consumer product flogged in town centers to busy moms and dads, the equivalent of keeping sweets at child eye level at supermarket checkouts.. a cheap cynical & disposable replacement for love. (or at least a hug)

The seller best hope his/her bidders don't read that... the price will come crashing down now you've compared the sentiment to three quids worth of plastic.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by minguez on Sept 17, 2007 8:27:21 GMT 1, I think many of the GWB:s has been bought and then been given away to girfriends, boyfriends wifes and husbands, and therefore the emotional value is huge. Some would not sell theirs for any sum in the world (how can you part from the best thing someone you love ever gave you), and that makes it very rare...

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by minguez on Sept 17, 2007 13:58:11 GMT 1, and how would your mrs react if you got it for her? a 15K proof of love....would she sell it as soon as it reaches 20k to buy something else, or keep it forever?
I bought the GWB canvas for my girl as a birthday gift, and she cried of happiness for about 3 hours... (please note that this was at a time when it could be bought directly from laz at prices anyone with a job could afford).

Maybe people are bidding early to prevent the seller from ending the listing early. To be honest I thought we wouldn't see what it would go for as the seller would prob get an offer off ebay and pull the auction.

Nope, it's an odd one. Mine's on the left opposite the stamp and number. But i guess from experience, it could pretty much be anywhere.

also strange that the picture of the number is totally different to the other three pictures. If i was bidding i would want to see that number clearly on the whole print and not just three reproduced images and a separate photo of the number.
