Banksy Soup Can Print, by broke on Oct 20, 2017 21:21:42 GMT 1, I think the consensus was that most probably the mount board was not acid free and the acid from the mount had affected the print edge (mainly one edge). It had UV glass and was out of direct sunlight so I don't think it's the affect of the sun. However, as with most things in life, I might be wrong. I think it is a lesson I have learned in making sure the mount is acid free how long has it been in that frame and did you frame it yourself? i would be very surprised if any professional framers used anything other than acid free board, and if they did i suggest finding yourself a new framer . The UV glass may have been put in the wrong way, making it effectively useless.

Banksy Soup Can Print, by iamzero on Oct 20, 2017 21:28:19 GMT 1, Beautiful. Only thing I can’t understand is why it as been attached to the window mount and not the under mount? Strange. The simplicity of this is amazing. standard procedure to attach it to the front mount
In who’s book? Certainly not a technique I’d use. T hinges all the way.

Banksy Soup Can Print, by Jonny Wednesday on Oct 20, 2017 21:42:59 GMT 1, Looks like very minor UV bleach that can be reversed. No idea of value but this would only have a minor effect IMO. What I would say and have said on countless occasions float mount is the only option. No matter if you use museum glass you will get fading and it will be uneven with a matt. Float will mean the fading will not be noticeable. People get hung up about hinges when floating when if done properly is 100% reversible and its the back of the print!! Most farmers who have been ask to use a matt to frame the print will hinge at the top anyway, as per this print. All said and done this is a beautiful print and worth more than the current asking IMO. how do you reverse UV bleaching?
Lovely print BTW. Am tempted but I think I'd have to castrate myself if I did.....save the missus doing it for me.

A book hinge is used to join the window mount to the under mount and two t hinges are used to attach to artwork to the under mount.

Banksy Soup Can Print, by simonf on Oct 20, 2017 22:37:50 GMT 1, So just out of interest is the "acid from the mount" theory blown out of the water? Is the consensus that it was sunlight? Just curious as I was surprised to find it. It was supposed to be acid free and uv glass.
Oh and can you reverse UV bleaching... I thought you couldn't

Banksy Soup Can Print, by broke on Oct 20, 2017 23:14:40 GMT 1, Cheers for the info dude, i am familiar with this technique but not huge fan myself as it takes more time to put in, guess i am just lazy. i am still a little confused why they say on that site never attach the work to the front of the mount, i don't see why it would cause such an issue.can you shed any light? or is it just personal preference?

Banksy Soup Can Print, by iamzero on Oct 20, 2017 23:20:43 GMT 1, Firstly the window mount could potentially sag under the weight of the artwork but more importantly it’s easier to position the artwork correctly when it’s attached to the under mount. The backing board is not the under mount.

The backing board is not the under mount. i disagree with both of those statements. I've framed tens of thousands of pieces onto the front mount and never had any complaints about sagging, guess it depends on the board you use. i also find it much easier to position as you can move the mount over the artwork instead of moving the artwork under the mount. each to their own i guess.

Banksy Soup Can Print, by iamzero on Oct 20, 2017 23:42:40 GMT 1, Well I’m guessing you’re better off voicing your disapproval to the framers guild dude. As a hobby/ part time framer I’ve opened countless frames from professional framers and been horrified to see what shoddy work these people pass off because the customer rarely sees it. I’m sure you’re one of the good guys though.
