John Doe π¨π¦ New Print Release β’ Street Art β’ For Sale, by Drymounted on Mar 25, 2011 19:36:31 GMT 1, I love the image as so many do, but re-hasing a limited run with 171 new pieces of the same image is a bit unfair for the previous collectors. On the flip side, it is a very cool gesture for the people that missed the first time.
I love John Doe's work, but I'd like to see him expand a bit more and ride the success of this image on to his next great idea.

I got the basic one on the first round, but don't bother being too gutted about new editions. Good work in my opinion! upthearts.bigcartel.com/

John Doe π¨π¦ New Print Release β’ Street Art β’ For Sale, by bitpunk on Mar 28, 2011 12:01:31 GMT 1, Someone explain something to me:
In the original image, it seems to me to be of a couple of kids on a cherry picker with a roller and a pot of paint painting a wonderful moon on a blank sky. But, on some of the 'special' ones, (the smiley and these latest ones with writing on) it seems to be applying the paint to an exisiting moon, maybe even THE moon.
Now the idea of a coupla kids holding hands in some sort of childlike romantic gesture creating their own beautiful full moon contrasts with the other images of them defacing it with a smiley, or 'peace' or whatever. One creates beauty, the other destroys it.
Am I reading this the same way you lot are, or should I get out more?

John Doe π¨π¦ New Print Release β’ Street Art β’ For Sale, by ricobenfico on Mar 28, 2011 18:41:39 GMT 1, I'm not sure all these will sell out you know. So many variants that follow on after initial release. For me, the print and image has lost something. It's good that more people have access to the image but if this were meant to be the case, it should have been a larger edition at initial release. I liked the idea of being only 1/35 (tbc) from the previous release to have this up on my wall. I'm not sure it will make the wall now (if I get the issue resolved re: non delivery/postman issue).
I think John Doe should have kept customer anticipation simmering away for the next new image release rather than create more versions based on demand for the print. I see why and can understand why they've done it this way, doesn't mean I have to like it.

I totally agree. I love mine but it seems to have lost that edge now. Part of the appeal was that it was from a small run. Now that the image has been re-released some of its charm has gone. Mine is currently on my wall....but im not sure for how long. I know a lot of people say we should like the image for what it is, but some of the appeal and charm for me is that i have something from a limited run... hmmm.

John Doe π¨π¦ New Print Release β’ Street Art β’ For Sale, by lifeonwalls on Mar 28, 2011 19:11:00 GMT 1, I'll probably sell my first edition silver AP in the next few days/weeks. Not a fan of massive second editions; no matter the explanation given it always comes across as a cash grab.

Indeed. The cash grab idea leaves a sour taste in my mouth.... puts me off the artist slightly....ah well. Good luck to him. Its still a great image. Its just a shame that the second release is so big! Everyone likes a bit of exclusivity....dont they?

John Doe π¨π¦ New Print Release β’ Street Art β’ For Sale, by hifigary on Mar 28, 2011 19:35:00 GMT 1, I think a lot of it depends on your reasoning for buying the piece in the first place. If you bought it for the image, then surely it makes no difference how many prints are/were issued. If you bought it as an investment, then I can understand that more and more releases of the same piece will have an effect on this.
For a lot of people that wanted the image and were unlucky enough to be working or had no funds available at the time, this is a good thing. I think maybe some artists should take this into account and release some items on a larger scale. How many times has a piece sold out in seconds that more people could enjoy (and then find it on ebay for 10 times the price the next day)? Maybe Banksy or D*face or Hirst (or any number of artists) could release one print a year on a this is for anyone who wants one edition.
