Visit SAN FRANCISCO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Harveyn on Apr 11, 2008 21:53:11 GMT 1, I am flying into San Francisco on business next week and have a day (Saturday 19th) to kill on the way back to the Ireland. Having never been looking for places to see with respect to art.
Staying in the www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1153&language=en-US which is opposite the Museum of Modern Art. Worth going?

Visit SAN FRANCISCO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by otomi on Apr 11, 2008 22:03:55 GMT 1, It usually is - right now it has nothing that gets me excited. BUT right across the SFMOMA is the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) and they have some cool stuff up right now - including Swoon. Down Market street at the luggage store is a big Swoon installation. Lucy McLaughlan at UpperPlayground.
This is the third post of this kind just look up the thread about SF to get more ideas.
Is everyone going to SF right now. Is there something going on I should know about?

Visit SAN FRANCISCO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by mrchristopherrobinso on Oct 6, 2014 3:55:30 GMT 1, The Martin Lawrence gallery on Geary near Powell Street has some stuff from Harring, Warhol, Murakami, Dali, etc. Friday nights they have free admission at the De Young and there is usually a band and they have a bar. Its not art related per se, but you should DEFINITELY check out the Academy of Sciences.
The Burning Man Decompression party is on the 12th and is a not-to-be-missed event. Great people watching. www.burningman.com/blackrockcity_yearround/special_events/decompression/decom2014.html
Burma Superstar is the best Burmese food in SF: www.yelp.com/biz/burma-superstar-san-francisco-2 Just be prepared to wait for a table, but it is located in the real, not touristy, china town; so there are lots of fun shops to check out after you get your name on the list.
DO NOT waste your time on Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, or any of the tourist trap BS.
Dolores Park is a great place to hang out and have a picknick and people watch. There are also lots of murals, mexican restaurants (my favorite is La Taqueria), and hipsters near Dolores Park.
You picked the perfect time to come to SF as mid October is our summer=)

Was just there last week, andbummed as i wanted to chow in the park. s

I had absolutely no idea what it was called though and couldn't even clearly remember whereabouts it was. It's really fascinating and other worldly, I remember having an arm wrestle with one of the exhibits amongst other weird stuff! Definitely worth a visit. Much as I love San Francisco the drive north up the coast through Santa Cruz towards Big Sur and beyond is stunning! We hired an old convertible mustang from a company called rent a wreck, don't know if the still exist? Their hire cars were super cool and really cheap then stayed at motels on route. Perfect trip in fact I NEED to do that again very soon ; )

Visit SAN FRANCISCO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by cashewman on Oct 7, 2014 23:58:31 GMT 1, I second the White Walls recommendation, and the Ai WeiWei exhibit is something I'm going to try to check out soon. Spoke Art is often worthwhile too.
Couple of my favorite local artists are Mike Tyau (who has a massive piece in SOMA (http://instagram.com/p/r-7_GyyGPE
Finally, check in with the fine folks at First Amendment Gallery (http://1amsf.com/), and try their relatively new app (http://1amsf.com/mobile/about-mobile/).
Have fun and welcome. - B
Edit: Yelp.com is your friend for restaurants, Golden Gate Park is wonderful, and you can easily spend a day in the Mission killing time along Valencia St. The South side of Dolores is still open, and worth an experience on a hot day. DM me if I can be helpful otherwise.

A lot of the time on the 1 there was a mountain on one side of the road and a cliff to the ocean on the other and there were several bicycle riders with packs, sometimes in pairs and some alone...at times I was worried for my own safety and I was in a car! I can't imagine how they must have felt.

Visit SAN FRANCISCO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by clueless on Dec 27, 2017 23:12:15 GMT 1, Forgive me if this is the wrong place.
I've just booked a trip to San Francisco for a New Year's Eve show and will have an extra day or two to wander around.
Does anyone know of any good galleries out that way? LA is too far and out of the question for this trip.

First Amendment sometimes has some nice stuff. Strong Graffiti influence. I like 886 Geary's curation, but have found them surprisingly tough to find open, which seems flaky.
But the MoMA is fantastic. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you missed it. Start on the 4th floor, and spend time with Richter, LeWitt, Martin, Kelly, and more. It's a wonderful collection.
