Jerkface, by brycepen on Jun 1, 2018 2:42:30 GMT 1, oooh please. Do expand. please. a) Are you suggesting the method is more important than the result?
Yes, I absolutely am. Why bother with hand made art all? Who needs technical skill when you have computer software?
Clearly you have never attempted oil painting or you wouldn’t suggest using vector software is comparable to hand produced work.
Is that a joke? What craft and style?! This is derivative digitally produced trash. Period.

Petty closed mined. A computer is a tool. No different than a pencil or paintbrush. An artist is not defined by the tools they use, but what they create. Extending your theory about computers and art,.. would you also say the work or PIXAR is trash, with no artistic value?
B) "Clearly you have never attempted oil painting or you wouldn’t suggest using vector software is comparable to hand produced work."
Wrong. I was lucky enough to to have an amazing father. Who taught me to sketch, paint, sculpt, etc. when I was a kid. So art production and appreciation, has been a part of my life since I can recall. So yes, I have "attempted" oil painting. I also know all the digital tools too! I uploaded a little sketch I did in graphite and oil pastel . . I'll admit I'm no Picasso (who i totally love) but not to shabby for a teenage kid!

C) Is that a joke? What craft and style?! This is derivative digitally produced trash. Period.
- His stuff is totally recognizable, . . . aka I'm pretty sure that means he has a style - What's wrong with derivatives? - That your opinion that is it trash,.. well, we can agree to disagree on that.

Jerkface, by CAL on Jun 1, 2018 4:57:52 GMT 1, lecastor , you really do seem to think Jerkface is on his way to blue chip status. Do you genuinely think he's a brilliant artist? I,ve always thought people who were into Jerkface were simply fan of the pop reference imagery and were looking for something nice for the wall while at the same time being aware it wasnt anything serious

Jerkface, by lecastor on Jun 1, 2018 5:16:36 GMT 1, Hey CAL,
a) I don't know if Jerkface is on his way to bluechip status. I'm not sure I'm qualified to say.
b) I do respect that he has dedicated himself to creating art.
c) Is he brilliant? Not sure. From watching him paint murals and canvases, he clearly has skills, and has developed a recognizable style. I think there is something compelling about his use of repetition, and recognizable imagery.
d) To be honest, I am surprised how fast his prices have risen. But that is part of the fun flowing artists. It's super interesting to see who is successful. Is the art, the subject matter, the curation, the gallery, etc.
. . . I guess time will answer all questions, and setting all debates. Until then, I think it's better to find the best in the attempt artists make, and interesting to see how talent, skill, and style evolve.

Jerkface, by expresspost on Jun 1, 2018 5:34:34 GMT 1, Anyone that is interested, if you want a point of comparison for painting skills, watch the documentaries on Chuck Close, Gerhard Richter, Alice Neel and Lucien Freud first.
Also search Liu Xiaodong on youtube too.
End of the day, everybody have fun.
